Dramatic

Following the success of Bodies, Conviction, Outlaws and Casanova, three of which were nominated for Baftas, the channel has begun to establish a reputation for cutting edge British drama.

Ìý

This season sees the arrival of newcomer Daniel Mays with Kris Marshall and Sarah Smart in the disturbingly funny thriller Funland – from the writers of The League of Gentlemen and EastEnders and the director of Shameless – as well as the return of Bodies.

Ìý

Funland

Ìý

Mystery, murder, violence, lust and perversion … in Blackpool.

Ìý

Newcomer Daniel Mays heads a cast including Kris Marshall, Roy Barraclough and Mark Gatiss in Funland – a disturbingly funny thriller by Bafta award-winning EastEnders writer Simon Ashdown and Jeremy Dyson, multiple award-winning writer of The League of Gentlemen.

Ìý

Set in Blackpool, Funland lifts the lid on intrigue, deception, unspeakable secrets and depravity that lie just behind the funhouse doors.

Ìý

Daniel Mays is Carter Krantz, the charismatic young hero, who arrives in Blackpool naked and carrying only a fragment of paper containing two mysterious words.

Ìý

Kris Marshall plays the hapless Dudley Sutton. At his side, but who knows for how long, is his wife Lola (Sarah Smart) who is looking forward to their dirty weekend.

Ìý

Ian Puleston-Davies is Shirley Woolf, a borderline psycho trapped by the demons of his past and the evil Mercy (Judy Parfitt), Blackpool's manipulative, powerful and awesome matriarch; and his foolhardy wife Connie (Frances Barber).

Ìý

Roy Barraclough plays the corrupt town mayor and Mark Gatiss plays the bizarre and haughty repressed taxidermist Ambrose Chapfel.

Ìý

Kenton Allen, Executive Producer of Funland and the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's Editor of Comedy, says: "Funland takes viewers to the deep black heart that beats at the core of every English seaside town, bringing the saucy seaside postcard screaming into the 21st century.

Ìý

"It's like the bastard son of The League of Gentlemen and EastEnders after a heavy night on the town with Twin Peaks. It's a hard-boiled comedy like you've never seen before."

Ìý

Funland is directed by Dearbhla Walsh (Shameless), Susan Tully (55 Degrees North) and Brian Kirk (Murphy’s Law).

Bodies

Ìý

"The first British doc opera to seriously rival ER for mature drama, Bodies has no secret weapon beyond the all-round excellent performances, notably Max Beesley as Lake, Neve McIntosh as Donna, Patrick Baladi as Hurley and Keith Allen as the consultant. Great stuff" - The Sunday Times

Ìý

Darkly humorous and scarily unsettling, the critically acclaimed Bodies is back.

Ìý

Jed Mercurio's drama sets pulses racing as tragedy, humour and sex interlace in explosive and moving tales of hospital life in an Obs and Gynae unit.

Ìý

Rob Lake has blown the whistle on his boss Roger Hurley for being an incompetent surgeon. But Hurley has covered his tracks and Rob's career is over.

Ìý

Whitman is finding it hard to come to terms with demotion and he plots Hurley's downfall while Rob continues to find solace in the arms of Sister Rix.

Ìý

Starring Max Beesley as Rob Lake, Patrick Baladi as Roger Hurley, Neve McIntosh as Donna Rix and Keith Allen as Tony Whitman.
