There are live performances from Moby, Natalie Imbruglia, Hard-Fi and Gavin De Graw as Dermot O'Leary launches Radio 2's week in Aberdeen by staging his very own minifestival, live from the University of Aberdeen.

Dermot says: "A weekend in Aberdeen should be fantastic. We are bringing some major artists with us, including Moby, Hard-Fi and Natalie Imbruglia, plus a bundle of goodies for those who want to come and watch our show."
Ìý
Moby, one of the most important dance music figures of the last decade, has helped to bring dance music to a mainstream audience. His recent album, Hotel, was recorded almost single-handedly in his New York studio and has cemented Moby's popularity as a purveyor of electronic-pop.

After quitting her acting career, Natalie Imbruglia launched her singing career with the million-selling single Torn. Her current album, Counting The Days, continues that success. It reached Number One and features the hits Shiver and the title track. Counting The Days succeeds White Lilies Island and her top five debut album, Left Of The Middle.

West London-based Hard-Fi are Richard Archer, Steve Kemp, Ross Phillips and Kai Stephens. Hailed as the best new band of 2005, they released their debut album, Stars Of CCTV, to critical acclaim.

New York-based singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw has been singing and playing piano since the age of eight. As a teenager, he discovered the music of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke and began playing in cover bands with his older brother. He
attended the Berklee College of Music for a year and moved to Manhattan. His album, Chariot, has been re-released as a stripped-down, live, acoustic version.

Now in its third year, Sold On Song aims to bring the art of great songwriting a little closer to Radio 2 listeners, whether they are aspiring writers themselves or simply enjoy knowing a little more about the songs they love.

Joining Radio 2 in Aberdeen is Mick Hucknall, who will be giving away the secrets behind hits such as Holding Back The Years as well as performing them in the intimate setting of The Lemon Tree.
Ìý
He joins a long list of songwriters who've given their time to Sold On Song, including Sir Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Neil and Tim Finn, Paul Weller and Guy Chambers.

They are joined by special guests Ruby Turner and Sam Brown.

Jools says: "I'm delighted to be able to bring my boogie woogie elements to the beautiful people of Aberdeen, who I love."

Jools was born in 1958 and, by the age of eight, he could play the piano fluently by ear. By the time he reached his early teens, he was proficient and confident enough to be appearing regularly in many of the pubs in South East London and the East End docks.
Ìý
At the age of 15 Jools was introduced to Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford and, together, they formed Squeeze; shortly afterwards they were joined by Gilson Lavis, who had already played with, among others, BB King, Chuck Berry and Max Wall, and who drums with Jools to this day.
Ìý
Up The Junction and Cool For Cats made Squeeze's success meteoric and their popularity rapidly extended to America, where they toured extensively.
Ìý
In 1987, Jools formed The Jools Holland Big Band, comprising entirely of himself and Lavis.
Ìý
This has gradually metamorphosed into the current 18-piece Rhythm And Blues Orchestra, which currently consists of a pianist, a drummer, two female vocalists, a guitarist, a bass guitarist, an organist, two tenor saxophonists, two alto saxophonists, a baritone saxophonist, three trumpeters and four trombonists.

Mark says: "Our show has a very loyal and active Scottish audience, so it'll be great to get out and meet some of them in person.

"I've only been to Aberdeen once before, and then in the company of Julian Cope. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we didn't get out to see the city that much. I therefore look forward to sampling its unique character on this trip."

Mark says of his special guest, KT: "Just occasionally you come across someone who immediately strikes you as having something special. KT Tunstall, when I first saw her performing solo at The Cavern in Liverpool, was one of those people.

The Tears reunites former Suede songwriters Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler, who are on vocals and guitar respectively. They are joined by Nathan Fisher on bass, Makoto Sakamoto on drums/percussion and Will Foster on keyboards.

The duo met up again in December 2003 and talked of forming a new band. Their first album as The Tears, Here Come The Tears, which features the singles Refugees and Lovers, was released in June this year.

The three acts appearing in concert tonight reflect the broad spectrum of music that characterises Bob Harris Country.
Ìý
Rodney Crowell is a Grammy-winning songwriter and country artist with five Number One singles to his name. He started his Nashville career as a guitarist in Emmylou Harris's Hot Band in the Seventies, and soon became one of her main songwriters.
Ìý
When he left the Hot Band, he formed The Cherry Bombs and went on to become a solo artist and producer for his then wife, Rosanne Cash. He also continued providing hit songs for artists such as Andy Williams, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, The Grateful Dead, Waylon Jennings and Bob Seger.

His commercial break as a solo artist came in 1988 with his album Diamonds And Dirt, which provided Number One hits and a Grammy for the song After All This Time.

His latest album, The Outsider, released earlier this year, follows on from his critically acclaimed albums The Houston Kid (2001) and Fate's Right Hand (2003), and sees him once again recording with Will Kimbrough - the 2004 Americana Instrumentalist Of The Year - who performs on guitar with Rodney tonight.

Like Rodney Crowell, Gretchen Peters is a songwriter whose work has been recorded by artists who span the genres – artists such as Etta James,The Neville Brothers, Pam Tillis, Neil Diamond and Faith Hill.
Ìý
She's earned Grammy nominations for her hit songs You Don't Even Know Who I Am and Independence Day, and is hailed by many people as one of Nashville's best contemporary songwriters.
Ìý
Tonight, she performs some of her best-loved songs, including When You Are Old, On A Bus To St Cloud and Tomorrow Morning.

Opening tonight's concert is the alt country duo The Believers, whose album Crashyertown has been a favourite of Bob Harris Country in 2005.

Featuring the talents of Cynthia Frazzini and Craig Aspen, The Believers' sound blends Americana rock with folk-country and a hillbilly twang.
