The story so far
Ìý
Restoration was launched in 2003 and captured the public
imagination, with 2.3 million votes raising nearly £500,000 towards the restoration of the Victoria Baths in Manchester.
Ìý
A major programme of work for a much loved municipal focal point, the first phase of restoration of the Victoria Baths, which also has the support of £3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), is now underway.

Likewise the Old Grammar School and Saracens Head in Birmingham
which again clocked up £500,000 from the public voting for Restoration and £2.5m
from the HLF in 2004. It is now due to reopen in early 2008.

How it works
Ìý
To give as broad a definition as possible, Restoration Village has defined a village/area as having a maximum population of 10,000.
Ìý
Each week, three buildings from a geographical area within the UK will be unveiled and viewers can then call the phoneline 09013 600500 to register their support.
Ìý
The regional winner will then be revealed in the following week's programme.
All seven winners will then be summarised in an update programme.
Ìý
A surprise eighth finalist will also join the line-up – this
will be the runner up that receives the most viewer votes across the
series.
Ìý
Each call will cost £1 with more than 77p going directly to the Restoration Fund,
a registered charity. Calls from a BT landline will cost £1. Calls from mobiles and other networks may vary.

Monies
raised from the voting lines will be used for the building that receives
the most votes provided it fulfils the conditions set out by the Trustees
of The Restoration Fund.
Ìý
The winning building will be unveiled at a grand final in mid-September.
Ìý
This year, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is also assisting each group of Restoration Village supporters to make a film, about their own building and local community, to help with promotion and fund-raising.

In addition, a new feature will allow villagers connected
with the properties to update a campaign diary, detailing the progress
of their campaigns. There will also be useful advice and tips on conserving
buildings in your local area.

The book
Ìý
Restoration Village – the book of the series, published by English Heritage – features
each of the chosen buildings and follows their story from selection to the final
plans for restoration.
Ìý
Peter William's photographs capture the essence of each building and archive
photographs combine with Philip Wilkinson's historical research to recall the
village in its heyday and set each of them in the context of their landscape
and social background.
Ìý
The book includes practical advice from the experts on the restoration issues
facing the buildings and insights and comments from the people who are fighting
for their restoration.
