CÖ÷²¥´óÐã Winter/Spring 2009

Programmes A-F

Blue Peter

Ìý

Television's longest-running children's show blasted onto kids' screens earlier this year with a new look, two new presenters and a host of new treats mixed with firm favourites to bring it bang up to date for a new generation.

Ìý

Now in its 51st year, this flagship series continues to be one of CÖ÷²¥´óÐã's most treasured programmes, inspiring children and enriching their lives by entertaining and informing them about the world in which they live.

Ìý

New presenters Helen Skelton and Joel Defries have joined Andy Akinwolere to take on high-octane challenges and continue the tradition of bringing to life incredible feats for children watching at home.

Ìý

Blue Peter has also launched a state-of-the-art 3-D website, which features a ship controlled by the user and a choice of areas in which to play.

Ìý

There are live-action versions of the three presenters in their own pad, showcasing secret diaries, bloopers, top fives and their latest mood updates.

Ìý

There's a 3-D Alaskan adventure land, where children can fly helicopters and travel around by zip wire to watch videos, play games and experience life in Alaska – the destination of the show's latest summer expedition.

Ìý

In spring 2009, the website will launch a Factbyte Factory, in which children collect points by interacting with Blue Peter's award-winning factual content.

Deadly 60

Ìý

British naturalist and wildlife presenter Steve Backshall (The Really Wild Show, Land Of The Jaguar, Expedition Borneo) returns to CÖ÷²¥´óÐã with his most daring adventure yet – travelling to six continents to find his "deadly 60" most lethal animals on earth.

Ìý

From beauties to beasts, Steve discovers creatures in far-flung places such as Australia, South Africa, North America, South America, Borneo and India that share one thing in common.

Ìý

From predators in the sea to swooping attackers in the skies, from large and ungainly beasts to small speedy insects, Steve searches high and low to discover his deadly 60.

Ìý

But not all fatal creatures live in exotic places; he also finds a lethal selection closer to home in the UK.

Ìý

Over the course of the series, Steve gets up close and personal with hippos in South Africa – these cuddly looking creatures actually kill more humans than any other mammal in Africa.

Ìý

He also tackles rough seas to get a closer look at the world's largest predatory fish, the great white shark, and seeks out the honey badger, named the world's most fearless animal by the Guinness Book of Records.

Ìý

Steve also encounters an adder, Britain's only deadly snake and the only venomous creature to have put him in hospital.

Ed N Oucho's Excellent Inventions

Ìý

A new fun-filled science series sees CÖ÷²¥´óÐã presenter Ed and his sidekick Oucho the cactus set off on an inventing adventure across the UK.

Ìý

Ed and Oucho have a massive problem: the Big Big Cheese has challenged them to find the best inventions from children all around the British Isles – build them and make them work.

Ìý

The trouble is that neither of them knows anything about science... but they're not telling the Big Big Cheese that.

Ìý

Leaving the confines of their warm studio, the hapless pair set off in their bright green camper van full of useless stuff to travel the country and meet some extraordinarily creative young people whose imaginative designs have been chosen.

Ìý

They also encounter some crazy characters (all played by Ed).

Ìý

In each show a basic scientific principle is tackled and explained. Ed and Oucho never get things right first time and several attempts are needed to get the inventions working.

Ìý

Ed, Oucho and the young inventors also discover that making science happen can be a messy business. Somehow they manage to make the children's dreams come true with a lot of laughter along the way.

Ìý

The series features inventions created by CÖ÷²¥´óÐã viewers, including a gardening dragon, a mermaid tail, walk-on-water shoes, a lemonade-powered car and a robotic goalie.

Escape From Scorpion Island

Ìý

Sixteen adventurers aged between 11 and 13 are marooned on an exotic island thousands of miles from school, friends and family.

Ìý

Living deep in the tropical rainforest, sleeping under the stars and swimming in secluded lagoons, they will be having the time of their lives.

Ìý

But this is no ordinary island – this is Scorpion Island, a mysterious place, full of dark surprises and devious twists.

Ìý

Presented by JK and Joel, series three of Escape From Scorpion Island promises to be the most nail-biting, adrenaline-soaked game show on Earth, constantly testing the adventurers physically, mentally and even emotionally.

Ìý

Split into three teams and forced to compete against each other in a battle to get off the island and return to civilisation, the children will undertake challenges in a once-in-a-lifetime outward bound experience sure to inspire kids watching at home.

Ìý

Tempestuous, mysterious, and always unpredictable, Scorpion Island will do anything to stop these adventurers escaping.

Ìý

It has concocted a series of extreme stunts and challenges that push the adventurers to their absolute limits and beyond.

Ìý

Each day, the winning team will collect a valuable island torch to help them in the final challenge – the team with the most island torches has the best chance of winning the race to escape.
