Imagine, Ö÷²¥´óÐã One's flagship arts & culture series, returns 17 November: introduction

Alan Yentob

Imagine, Ö÷²¥´óÐã One's flagship arts and culture series, is to return to our screens for an Autumn 2009 run of six fascinating and diverse films presented by Alan Yentob.

The new series, which aims to look at the power and effect of the arts and the people who have changed our way of looking at the world, will launch with Imagine... The Year Of Anish Kapoor on Tuesday 17 November at 10.35pm.

Exploring the life and works of some of the world's most celebrated cultural figures, cultures and trends, Autumn's eclectic mix of topics ranges from modern art to popular music, opera to Scrabble.

From Anish Kapoor as he looks forward to being the first living artist to exhibit in each room of The Royal Academy; to Shirley Bassey's first studio album in 20 years, a unique collaboration with some of Britain's best known songwriters.

Placido Domingo and Joan Baez are two legendary musicians who continue to take on new challenges in the prime of life. Imagine profiles these very different artists and explores how they make their mark.

The series also uncovers a new breed of art collector on the block whose passion borders on addiction and delves into the history of Scrabble, one of the worlds favourite board games.

17 November – The Year Of Anish Kapoor
24 November – Dame Shirley Bassey: The Girl From Tiger Bay (working title)
1 December – Own Art (working title)
8 December – Joan Baez (working title)
15 December – Placido Domingo (working title)
22 December – Scrabble (working title)

Presenter of Imagine, Alan Yentob, comments: "There's lots to surprise people in this new series of Imagine – from Anish Kapoor's astonishing makeover of the Royal Academy to the bold new musical adventures of Placido Domingo and Dame Shirley Bassey – not forgetting the art of playing competitive Scrabble, the world's favourite word game."
