A day of events is devoted to the music of JS Bach, offering three distinct snapshots of the composer's huge and diverse output and building on the festival spirit of the Proms (14 August).

Bach's exuberant Brandenburg Concertos are given by Sir John Eliot Gardiner and his English Baroque Soloists in two Proms Saturday Matinees at Cadogan Hall.

Celebrations then move to the Royal Albert Hall for a late-afternoon organ recital by David Briggs before an evening of grand orchestral arrangements performed by Andrew Litton and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and broadcast live on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two.

Numerous musicians over the years have been inspired to make orchestral versions of Bach's best-loved works and this concert shows off just a few by Bantock, Grainger, Respighi, Sargent, Stokowski, Walton and Wood, as well as two specially commissioned new ones by young British composers Alissa Firsova and Tarik O'Regan, bringing a fresh new perspective to this musical genius.
