Army Season: Combat Kids

Army Season

CÖ÷²¥´óÐã has commissioned a special season of programmes examining, through drama and documentary, how children are affected by war.

The season will explore what it is like for those left behind in the UK when a parent goes to fight abroad and will find out what it is like to grow up in war-torn Afghanistan.

Combat Kids, three 30-minute dramas from Lime Pictures, examines the awkwardness of a family divided by the difficulties of military life. Documentary My Life – Toy Soldiers follows children whose lives are disrupted by having a parent in the armed forces.

Rounding off the season, Newsround visits Afghanistan to report on the lives of Afghan children. Presenter Sonali Shah finds out about the war's impact on their lives and discovers more about the Afghan children's home and school life, especially education for girls.

The Big Performance

The Big Performance

Ten terrified young singers, who can't even face singing in front of their parents, face the challenge of a lifetime in The Big Performance – they must perform in front of 40,000 people at the UK's biggest outdoor festival, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Proms In The Park.

Only one man can help them pull this off – choirmaster and showman extraordinaire, the award-winning Gareth Malone.

Gareth takes the shy would-be performers around the country on a state-of-the-art tour bus in this 12-part series, setting them increasingly difficult performance challenges covering a huge variety of musical styles.

Can the group hold their notes when boy band The Wanted is watching? Can they shed their inhibitions in Rock Week with the UK's air guitar champion? Will they dare walk through the streets of Birmingham dressed as Lady Gaga? All these challenges lead to the final Big Performance at the Proms.

Gareth believes these children have the potential to be great singers. Now they just need to believe in themselves.
