Stories

Manchester Passion - Part One

Sally Magnusson is behind the scenes at the Manchester Passion, a one-off open air community-inspired performance of the story of Christ's life in Manchester City Centre.

She meets writer and producer Geoff Millard, and hears how the script has been adapted for a modern audience.聽Nakib Narat, who plays聽Pontius Pilate, and Rob Slater, who plays Jesus, are both unpaid volunteers and explain their personal experience of taking part.

Sally also meets the musical director, Wayne Ellington, and Judas actor Ben Rigby and hears how music plays a part in the production.

Battle Carol

Claire McCollum visits Battle Abbey in Sussex to chat with Dr. Michael Carter about a medieval carol that's just been discovered jotted in the back of a monk's service book. We hear the carol performed by Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge.

Inspirational Bell Ringer

Julie McDonnell has blood cancer and has chosen to raise money for the fight against it by ringing church bells. She has asked churches and cathedrals all over the world to ring the special peel of "Julie McDonnell". She tells her story to The Rev. Kate Bottley, and visits Westminster Abbey to hear the peel taking place there.

Manchester Passion - Part Two

Sally Magnusson sees the Manchester Passion's interpretation of the Resurrection, and meets Mary Magdalene actress Gillian Freeman, who can relate personally to the role she's playing.

At the end of the performance, members of the public in the audience give their reaction to the production.

The performance of the Manchester Passion took place in Cathedral Gardens, Manchester on Saturday 8th April 2017.
