Personal Support Unit
Every year thousands of people find themselves facing the battle of their life in court, alone and without help. They have to represent themselves in cases of divorce, contact with children, or eviction, navigating a complex legal system, often against trained professionals.聽 Over 750 volunteers provide a free service across the country. We provide comfort, support and guidance through the court process. We ensure people facing court alone feel prepared and supported to access justice.
Helping vulnerable court users
In our appeal you鈥檒l hear about Sue, who was anxious and scared about going to court alone. She did not have access to legal help and was going to a hearing with her ex-husband鈥檚 legal team. Luckily there was a Personal Support Unit in her court.
Meet Eddie, PSU volunteer
鈥淲hen I met Sue, she was very anxious. She was worried about the possibility of seeing her abusive ex-husband鈥ith support Sue was able to prepare her notes, allowing her to speak with confidence and clarity during the hearing.鈥�

鈥淚'm so happy that we can support people like Sue; she felt alone and intimidated by the court system. Fortunately, with help, she felt like she had been heard; that she had someone on her side. I think that made a huge difference.鈥�
