Slighe sgoile Nicaragua/Ways to School in Nicaragua

Every morning, the three sisters - Julia, Yulissa and Kenya - climb into their dugout boat in order to row to school in Nicaragua.

A h-uile madainn tha triùir pheathraichean Julia, Yulissa agus Kenya a’ leum dhan eathar aca airson dèanamh air an sgoil. Tha iad a’ fuireach air costa an Ear Nicaragua, aon de na sgìrean as bochda san t-saoghal. Ach tha dùbhlan a bharrachd aig na nigheanan seo, leis an tè as òige còig agus an tè as sine naoi, tha iad ag ullachadh airson an slighe a dhèanamh tarsainn air abhainn Rio Escondido. Chan e a-mhàin gur e seo aon de na h-aibhnichean as motha san dùthaich, ’s e seo cuideachd aon de na slighean sgoile as cunnartaiche.

Feumaidh a' chlann san t-sreath seo coiseachd, sreap no snàmh ann an suidheachaidhean cunnartach air an t-slighe chun na sgoile. Chan eil aca ach aon amas: foghlam a nì leasachadh air am beatha. 'S ann aig a' chloinn seo a tha na slighean sgoile as cunnartaiche air thalamh – agus cuid dhen fheadhainn as bòidhche cuideachd.

Every morning, the three sisters - Julia, Yulissa and Kenya - climb into their dugout boat in order to row to school. They live on the east coast of Nicaragua, one of the world’s poorest countries. But these sisters, the youngest having just turned five and the oldest only nine, are setting off to row across the Rio Escondido. Not only is it one of the largest rivers in the country, it is one of the most dangerous routes to school.
