As people all round the world celebrate Diwali this weekend, our archive piece comes from a programme Mark made in Mumbai all about the festival of lights.

A buzzard has taken up residence in a field near Helen’s home in Aberdeenshire. She’s noticed it a lot recently but why is spending so much time on the ground? We find out live from Duncan Orr-Ewing, chair of the central Scotland branch of the Scottish Raptor Study Group who counts the buzzard as one of his favourite birds.

A few weeks ago, Helen Needham headed down to the river Dee to catch up with Rachel and Mark who were undertaking a ‘catchment triathlon’ to raise awareness of the environmental issues facing our river areas.

Mark was joined by some rather playful fox cubs in the Aberdeen car park last week, something we hadn’t seen before during Out of Doors. Has wildlife become more brazen in our towns and cities during lockdown and what kind of things can you see over winter? Anthony Robson, a trustee with the Scottish Wildlife Trust tells us.

The Aberdeen march stones are a set of 67 stones that outline the Freedom Lands- an area gifted to the people in 1319 by Robert the Bruce. Hayden Lorimer is a geographer who made it his mission to learn more about the stones and then run a marathon round them all. He met up with Mark to show him two of the stones and tell him their stories.

The Leonid meteor shower, one of the more prolific annual meteor showers, will be most visible to us at the start of next week. Euan gazes skyward to give us some meteoric facts.

What else can you see in the night sky at the moment? David Worthington, resident astronomer at the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory in the Galloway Forest Park joins us live to tell us what to look out for.
