As a child, Britten鈥檚 mother was certain of his destiny: he would be a musician, and not just an ordinary musician. A childhood friend recalled that 鈥渜uite often we would talk about the 3 B鈥檚鈥� Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.鈥�
Edith was determined that her son Benjamin should become the 4th 鈥楤鈥�.
