I Will Always Love You: The Bodyguard at 30

Michelle Visage celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Bodyguard - the smash hit film of 1992 starring Whitney Houston with the biggest-selling soundtrack in history.

Whitney Houston would have been 60 on August 9 2023. In celebration of her amazing talent, here's another chance to enjoy Michelle Visage's look back at The Bodyguard.

November 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of the release of The Bodyguard - the biggest film of 1992, the biggest-selling soundtrack in history, the pinnacle of the late great Whitney Houston's legacy, and now a successful stage show.

Michelle Visage also featured on that soundtrack and is a proud Whitney superfan. In this hour-long special, Michelle recalls Whitney鈥檚 journey leading to the release of the film. She hears from the man who discovered Whitney, Clive Davis, who oversaw her involvement in the movie despite initial concerns with that decision. In the film, Spandau Ballet鈥檚 Gary Kemp played the role of the manager, and remembers being on set with the star. Award-winning film score composer Alan Silvestri also looks back at the recording of the soundtrack and tells of his surprise at global success of the film.

Also looking back on The Bodyguard鈥檚 blockbusting success are singer Lisa Stansfield, who also featured alongside Whitney on the soundtrack; former Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes who announced I Will Always Love You as the UK鈥檚 official Christmas number one single of 1992; Radio 2鈥檚 very own expert on soul and R鈥檔鈥橞 Trevor Nelson, who shares his memories of the impact of the film; and British soul star Beverley Knight, who talks about starring in the West End stage version of the film and the continuing appeal of the story and music.

Whitney's music continues to appeal to younger generations, and The Bodyguard delights new audiences to this day. This show will be packed with nostalgia, fascinating insights and blockbuster hits, with Michelle Visage taking listeners back 30 years ago to when it all started, revealing how it changed her life and made its mark in musical history.
