Agnes Lunny: A life marked by tragedy but also filled with hope

Finding hope amidst despair. Dr Agnes Lunny has faced the loss of her eyesight, the deaths of her parents and her brother in a fire and this year the death of her step-daughter.

This time last year Dr Agnes Lunny, chief executive of the Positive Futures charity, was looking forward to 2022, with her husband Paul and their family.
However, the year turned out to be one marked by deep grief, anxiety and sometimes despair. Her husband Paul was diagnosed with a terminal illness in February. Just two months later her step-daughter Siobhan took her own life.
They were not the first tragedies in Agnes' life. At just eight years old, she began to lose her sight, today she's registered blind. At 16, her mother, father and brother all died in a house fire. Somehow, Agnes continues to find reason to hope and in this extended conversation with Audrey Carville, she still describes herself as an optimist and talks about "luxuriating in the goodness of other people."
