In Kenya, Tanzania, India and Afghanistan we teach women the skills they need to earn a living 鈥� running their own businesses on their own terms, so their families don鈥檛 have to live in poverty.
Why do we work with women?
Around 400 million women and girls live below the poverty line of US $1.90 a day.聽
Supporting women to earn their own income 鈥� and decide how they spend it 鈥� means more children in school, and more families with access to healthcare.鈥犅�
Mary鈥檚 story
For Mary and her young daughter, life was a constant struggle. With support from Hand in Hand, Mary built a business making and selling soap. Mary used the profits to move out of her iron shack and send her daughter to university.
Creating jobs and incomes for women
Last year the women entrepreneurs we support set up 24,676 businesses, which provided 31,289 jobs and incomes for them and their families.
The money they earn and the confidence they gain changes everything. Whole communities are transformed.
