Aonaracht

Belfast composer 脷na Monaghan embarks on an ambitious new six-part suite that sees her recruit top traditional musicians to record an album of solo performances with electronics.

Fiosra铆onn 脷na Monaghan na f茅idearthachta铆 nuair a bhuaileann ceol traidisi煤nta na h脡ireann in 茅adan smaointe nua, a thugann d煤shl谩n do na rialacha.
Leanann fadscann谩n faisn茅ise nua an cl谩irseoir, cumad贸ir agus innealt贸ir fuaime agus 铆 i mbun albam 煤r trialach a thaifeadadh - Aonaracht.

T谩 blianta fada caite ag 脷na ag obair idir eola铆ocht agus eala铆on, agus ag scr煤d煤 na gcrosbheala铆 idir ceol traidisi煤nta na h脡ireann, ceol trialach, tobchumadh agus teicneola铆ocht idirghn铆omhach. Bh铆 tionchar ag saothar John Cage uirthi, agus le tamall anuas t谩 a cl煤 f茅in tuillte ag 脷na sa se谩nra.

Agus Aonaracht ar cheann de na togra铆 is uaillmhiana铆 d谩 cuid, t谩 ar 脷na anois 谩iti煤 ar s谩rcheolt贸ir铆 traidisi煤nta eile a muin铆n a chur inti agus sa se谩nra at谩 谩 chur chun cinn aici: ag taifeadadh albam rianta aonaracha measctha le leictreonaic.

脷na Monaghan explores the opportunities that arise when traditional folk music is confronted with new ideas, breaking all the rules.

A new feature-length documentary follows the Belfast harpist, composer and sound engineer as she records her latest experimental album, Aonaracht. 脷na has spent a lifetime steering the course between science and art, examining the intersections between Irish traditional music, experimental music, improvisation and interactive technologies. Influenced by the work of John Cage, 脷na has made the form her own.

Aonaracht is one of her most ambitious projects to date, and 脷na must now convince other top traditional musicians to embrace the art form she is pioneering: recording an album of solo performances with electronics.
