It’s a traditional Countryside this week as Nicola heads to the Glens of Antrim to find to more about the Festival of Colours and how Mexican natural dyer and designer, Malu Colorin, moved to Ireland and discovered how to dye beautiful Irish linen using roots and plants found in fields and hedgerows. The Northern Counties Fiddle Society fills the studio with music and Nicola talks to Ballymena violin maker, Jonny Murphy, about how the skill has been passed down from generation to generation. It’s time to find out the secrets of soda making with another Jonny Murphy – who is otherwise known as the Hungry Hooker. Jonny, from Donaghcloney in County Armagh, was forced to retire from rugby due to injury at just 30 years old. But he has turned his passion for hooking into cooking, thanks to the age old recipes handed down by his granny. And Nicola returns to the Glens to talk to storytellers, Liz Weir and Mabel Jenkins, about the rich history of telling tales from rural areas.
