Lough Neagh in under the microscope as blue green algae is visible again in the water – presenter, Nicola Weir, speaks to Dr Neil Reid, from the Institute of Global Food Security at Queen’s University, Belfast, who is the lead author of a new report confirming that 80 per cent of the bacterial DNA tested from the algae belong to potentially hazardous microbes including e.coli and salmonella. Nicola also speaks to the deputy president of the Ulster Farmers’ Union, John McLenaghan, about the action taken by farmers to protect the Lough as well as those who use it. In a lighter note, the programme heads to County Monaghan to find out how snail farmer, Kieran Corley, is helping single snails find true love and we tip toe through the sunflowers at Flavour First Farm with farmers William and Leanne Donnan in Donaghadee.
