Although living conditions are very basic for the student teachers, they soon realise that theirs is a life of luxury when compared with the villagers. The lack of hygiene has caused much death and illness in the locality and the community will have to learn to change some of their habits and customs if they are to lead a healthier life. But the student teachers have also learnt a few lessons from their Yi neighbours. The villagers' genuine warmth and generosity are things that the students feel are missing from city life; receiving these from their Yi hosts have inspired them and will make this year a truly unforgettable experience.
