Scotland and Northern Ireland

Angus Roxburgh explores Scotland's willingness to secede without weapons or bloodshed; Kathy Clugston delves into Belfast's musical heritage.

Owen Bennett Jones introduces two stories from the UK. First, from Scotland, where next month there will be a vote on independence. Angus Roxburgh has returned there after many years reporting from all over the world and wonders whether lessons about independence can be learned from Slovakia which seceded peacefully from Czechoslovakia 21 years ago.

A decade ago, the few tourists to came to Belfast went on the "Troubles Tour" to learn about Northern Ireland's bloody past. As the peace process creaked forward so did the tourism industry and now it's booming. Kathy Clugston takes a musical tour of the city and finds it's now celebrating its rich and tuneful cultural history.
