At the London 2012 Olympics David Rudisha’s victory in the 800 metres was labelled the greatest race ever seen over the distance.

The Kenyan set a new world record of 1m 40.91s and the pace was so fast that even the last athlete across the line would have won gold at the previous three Olympics.

David Rudisha tells Extratime he is aiming to lower his world record even further and possibly go below the 1m 40s barrier.

The world record time in the 800 metres has barely moved a second over the past 34 years. In 1981 Sebastian Coe set a world record of 1m 41.73s, less than a second slower than David Rudisha’s current time.
