City, Zika & School Radio

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

It's a story that noone in Leicestershire, or even around the world, is tired of hearing yet. Leicester City are top of the Premier League ... And 5 points clear. After an impressive 3-1 win over Manchester City. We take a look back at a dream weekend for the Foxes, and speak to one bookmaker about how Leicester's success could cause a big impact on them.
Also, a mum from Leicestershire whose son was born with a condition now being linked with the Zika virus says families will need plenty of support to cope with the future. Anne Ball's 15-year old son James has microcephaly - a birth defect - which causes a child's head to be small in size, and the brain to under-develop. The condition is now being linked to the mosquito-borne Zika virus, with over 4000 children born with it since October in Brazil and over a dozen other countries now affected. The World Health Organisation has declared Zika a global health emergency. Anne - from Lutterworth - has been explaining how microcephaly has affected James' life.
And, for most of us working in radio, we learned our craft perhaps during our student years but I can guarantee we were older than ten years old. But at one Leicestershire Primary School, the year 5s have their own fully functioning broadcast studio. In fact the facilities put some of ours here at 主播大秀 Radio Leicester to shame! Jo went to see what the opposition are up to at Orchard Primary School in Castle Donington.
