A German Jewish refugee, Stefan is strong-willed and defiant.
He is repeatedly victimized by the Cribbens but refuses to submit to their demands that he speak English. Stefan forms a bond with Nancy and risks further punishment when he helps her find evidence to bring the Cribbens to justice.
