Lights, camera, action, Amanda is ready to take the Strictly centre stage
A star of both the stage and screen, Amanda Abbington is one of the country's most recognisable actors. After a drama teacher encouraged her to pursue acting, she studied at Hertfordshire Theatre school for three years, which led her to score small roles in The Bill, Casualty, Doc Martin, Teachers and Poirot during the mid-90s.
Taking on roles in 20 Things to Do Before You're 30, Man Stroke Woman, Married Single Other and Case Histories in the 2000s, Amanda took some time out to give birth to her two children in 2006 and 2008. In 2013 she was cast as Josie Mardle in Mr Selfridge, which was her onscreen breakthrough role, and she credits it as the role that changed her career.
In 2014 Amanda was introduced into the acclaimed drama series Sherlock as Mary Morstan, her portrayal won her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Crime Thriller Awards and also saw her nominated at the Critics Choice TV Awards.
In 2015, Amanda starred as DS Jo Moffat in police drama Cuffs, which focused on the personal lives of front-line police officers in Brighton,鈥痑nd by 2018, Amanda was one of the main stars of the Netflix series Safe. In 2021 she began to play Dot in police procedural drama Wolfe, and she led heist drama Desperate Measures in 2022 before returning to her comedic roots with The Family Pile.
Throughout her career, Amanda's appeared in numerous plays both London’s West End and theatres around the country, most notably starring in The Unfriend, and now she’s returned to TV to spend Saturday nights as part of the Strictly class of 2023!
