Leo Green

Hear Leo present Sounds of the 50s, Mondays 10pm

With a career that started before he reached the age of 20, Leo Green is an incredibly talented addition to the Radio 2 family. Robert De Niro describes him as a ’very talented young man’ and Rock‘n’Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis declared him "The greatest sax player I have ever worked with”.

The new king of Rock & Roll and the Prince of wails. Leo Green is born to Boogie
Jools Holland

Leo was part of Van Morrison's band for several years appearing throughout the world, playing concerts, festivals and theatres. During this period he recorded many albums with Van both as a soloist and as an arranger. Leo then moved onto spend two years with Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

By the end of his twenties, Leo had built up an astonishing CV, having worked with almost every major musical figure in the world – from Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, and Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few.

He produced Jane Horrocks album, “The Further Adventures Of Little Voice” which featured duets with Robbie Williams, Ewan MacGregor and, with a little help from technology, the late great Dean Martin. He also made his acting debut in the British movie ‘Swing’, alongside Hugo Speer and Lisa Stansfield.

Leo can now add Radio 2 presenter to his bow as he hosts the station’s new Sounds of the 50s. For ten weeks, Leo will be guiding us through the delightful sounds of the music that has made the 1950s eclectic, groundbreaking and iconic.
