Admitting to borrowing the music, he hoped it would encourage new listeners to the Fab Four. 鈥淚 suppose fifty percent of it鈥檚 put there to wind people up. And the other fifty percent is saying 鈥楲ook this is how songs like 鈥楲ook Back In Anger鈥 come about. Because they鈥檙e inspired by songs like 鈥業magine鈥. ..there鈥檚 some kid out there will read the interview and say Imagine well I鈥檝e never heard that song. And he might go and buy the album..鈥
A cursory glance at the lyrics sheet leaves you just as confused as Wonderwall but somehow it doesn鈥檛 matter. Oasis have way of making you feel you have heard all before, and you probably have if you listen to the Beatles and yet the idiosyncratic Gallagher vocal style and post modern dream like lyrics make the song unique. Three singles came off the What鈥檚 the Story, the album also gave us Some Might Say and Wonderwall, as well as the explosive Champagne Supernova and raucous pub rock of Roll With It. A multi platinum album with Don鈥檛 Look Back taking no 1 in the UK singles chart in March 1995. Oasis were never better than this.
