What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that is sent to your computer when you visit some websites. Cookies store information about you for the next time you visit a site.

The cookies used in the Sex ID test are needed to make the survey work properly. For example, we need to be able to recognise your computer, if you decide to stop taking the test and come back to finish it later.

Find out more about cookies from Ö÷²¥´óÐã Webwise.

Read the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's privacy and cookies policy.

How do I switch my cookies on?

The simple steps you'll need to take to allow your computer to accept cookies vary depending on the browser you are using to view the internet.

The website has browser-specific information about controlling your cookies. (The Ö÷²¥´óÐã is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.)

Why does my pop-up blocking software stop me from taking the test?

The Sex ID test appears in a series of pop-up windows. You may have to turn off your pop-up blocking software to take the test.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Webwise has more information about pop ups.

I started the test and came back to finish it, but now there are questions missing.

During May 2005 the Sex ID experiment finished. Questions were removed from the test because the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is no longer collecting test takers' data. However, you can still test yourself with challenges put together by a team of UK psychologists and you'll still get the same results profile you would have had if you'd finished the test on the full-sized experiment site.

Can someone else see my results page?

When you've completed the test, you'll receive a page of results that lists your scores and puts them into context.

If you are using a public computer, for example, a shared work computer or an internet cafe machine, others could use your log on name to see your results page. That's why we advise you to delete your results when you've completed the test. If you want to keep your results you can print the results page.

Can I quit the test and delete the cookie in my computer?

You can quit the test at any time you like and delete the data stored in the test cookie on your computer. Doing this would remove all the information your computer holds about the test. If you are using a public computer, we advise you to take this step once you've completed the test because others may be able to see your results page. While the results page doesn't contain any personal information, you may not want others to see your scores.

To delete your data, go to the test menu page and follow the link at the top of the page.

Can I take the test on more than one computer?

Unfortunately you must complete the test on the same computer. This is because the test must save a cookie to your computer for Sex ID to work properly.

If you begin the test on one computer and then try to complete it on another, the second computer won't have the cookie that lets us know what your log on name is and how far you got in your first session. You will have to restart the test, if you use a different computer.
