For the first time ever, this year's Ö÷²¥´óÐã Edinburgh Festival benefited from combining a wide array of talents under one roof for all its Fringe activities. , near Bristo Square was the base of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's activities from Friday 12 to Saturday 27 August. THE GOOD, THE BAD and the MULTIPLEX

The Edinburgh International Film Festival may have moved from August to June, but Mark Kermode is in the city nonetheless, appearing at the Book Festival with The Good, The Bad and The Multiplex. He's up in arms about digital multiplexes and their multiple threats to independent cinemas. Simon Mayo talks to Danish film director Lone Scherfig about her new film, An Education, which stars Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard and Emma Thompson. As he publishes Diaries 1980–1988: Halfway to Hollywood - The Film Years, the latest volume of his autobiography, Michael Palin talks to Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo about his film career after Monty Python.
