This is a male Eastern Bluebird (there is no such thing as a Blue Redstart) and it is a bird bever seen in Europe before. I suspect Will is winding us all up - if not phone Mr P immediately (Will you know what this means!). If it is a win-up, please don't do it again ;-). It could make some birdwatchers very nervous!

Is there such a thing? I googled it and can find blue-fronted and blue-capped ones and something called a red-flanked bluetail (which looks much more like it actually) but nothing called simply "blue redstart". Also, none of them have that prominent black bar on the wing which seems to be only on the Moussier's redstart.

I am not trying to stage a wind up. I saw a sparrow sized, blue bird in our garden but didn't have my camera handy. As I didn't know what it was I tried to find a picture of the bird on google and the above is the best and closest I could find. Although there still seems to be some debate as to the identity of this bird I would like to thank everybody for their suggestions.
