The Breakfast team

Behind the scenes on Breakfast

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Shropshire Breakfast show presenter Eric Smith introduces us to his team.

ÌýWe're a small but perfectly formed team on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Shropshire Breakfast show – and I thought it was about time I introduced the team to you.

So many people listen to the show and just don't know what goes on behind the scenes.ÌýLet me take you through the process of how a breakfast show hits the airwaves.

It all starts straight after the show on the previous day. Jane McIntyre our programme producer starts planning for the following day with a blank sheet of paper and (hopefully) a whole host of ideas.

In conjunction with our News Editor Sharon Simcock, reporters are dispatched to jobs as soon as possible to make a head start on any feature material we might need.

Throughout the morning we all pitch in with ideas of stories to do and people to talk to and then the early team go home around lunchtime.ÌýThe whole process is then refined and amended by a 'late producer' as the day goes on. This, together with any breaking news, will form the body of the show on the following day.

So by the time early evening comes around, we will all have a fair idea of what should happen on tomorrow's show.ÌýI say 'should happen' because you never know, and things change by the minute.

An early start

The following working day dawns early, with Jane in at around 4.30am together with Ian Perry, the host of our early show and the breakfast show radio car reporter. Andrew Hewkin our breakfast news man and I follow on at around 5am, and then it's heads down to get things together for the start of the show at 6am.

Liz SargeantÌý(our technical wiz) is next in at 6am for the start of the show, and Adam Green, affectionately known as "Greenie" is in to do the travel just after 7am.

As we start we all have a basic idea of what will be in the show that morning, but things can change, and very often do.

Jane will be on the phone lining up new guests to interview... very often on stories breaking that morning. Lizzie could be checking the availability of studio links across the country and with Ö÷²¥´óÐã correspondents around the world.

With Adam keeping tabs on the travel and Ian navigating his way round the county in the radio car, we've got it covered.

And while this is going on, Andrew Hewkin is making sure that the news and sport on the hour and the half hour is bang up-to-date.

It's a busy three hours every day – and no two days are ever the same!

We all get a buzz out of what we do and you can rest assured that we are all committed to making sure you get the most up-to-date picture of what's going on in Shropshire and the rest of the world every weekday morning 6-9am.

Keep listening!
