Bahama-based friends Aarav (Akshay) and Sagar (Sanjay) while away their leisure time fishing and boxing. Rich guy Aarav soon shows an interest in the sunken ship ‘Lady in Blue’ carrying long lost treasure never retrieved before.
Sagar is the only person who can get to the ship but due to personal reasons he refuses to help Aarav in his quest. His decision changes when younger brother Sam (Zayed Khan), gets into trouble with a Bangkok mafia don (Rahul).
It is not long before circumstances force Sagar to face his inner demons. He helps Sam and Aarav to retrieve the sunken treasure for their personal gain. But there are risks involved . . .
Director Anthony D’Souza’s film sets new standards of filmmaking being the first Hindi flick to be shot underwater. Whether it is the camera work or sound, each frame is a visual delight especially the opening Hollywood style credit sequence.
Kylie Minogue’s cameo appearance is also one of the pleasant highlights of the movie looking glamorous as she chiggy-wiggs with Akshay Kumar.
But once again talented director D’Souza falls prey to an under-developed script and a good screenplay.
The slick action sequences and engaging bike rides keep you engrossed but the weak storyline fail to sustain the thrill factor so typical of an action thriller.
Even Sagar and Aarav’s convincing revelations about the treasure do not come as a shocking twist which could have given the climax scene the much needed punch.
Zayed Khan makes his presence felt in the Fast and Furious-style bike chases. He gets better and more stylish in appearance with every release!
Veteran star Sanjay Dutt is convincing as Sagar who is trying to come to terms with a past personal incident.
Leading ladies Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif do not have much scope to exhibit their acting talents except to provide enough glamour to light up the silver screen.
But it is Akshay Kumar as Aarav who holds the fort with his charismatic charm and witty one-liners. Chiggy Wiggying with Miss Minogue or simply living dangerously, Kumar is at his best once again in Blue.
On the whole Blue is worth watching for it thrilling action sequences and stunning visuals.
