With the release of Tales Don't Tell Themselves in 2007, Funeral For A Friend found themselves no longer the darlings of the rock press; their sound had moved away from 'emo' and the rock scene had moved away from 'emo'.

Their record label, Atlantic, let them go but undeterred, the band decided to self-release their next record, Memory And Humanity.

Its 13 tracks are wide in scope and demonstrate a definite move back towards hardcore influences. We caught up with guitarist Darran Smith and new bassist Gav Burrough who took us through the tracks on the album.

With themes of religion and loss embedded in the tracks, it might be expected to be something of a morbid, down-tempo set, but far from it.

The band have returned to some of their key early influences and Memory And Humanity is definitely a piece of work that will interest those of a heavier, more harcore disposition.
