Goldie Lookin' Chain - When The Maggot met Aled

Goldie Lookin' Chain's Maggot

Backstage at January 2005's Tsunami Relief Cardiff concert, we stumbled upon Aled Jones and GLC's The Maggot. Here's what they had to say...

Last updated: 27 November 2008

You're a fan of the GLC, Aled?

Aled Jones: Absolutely. The boys came on my TV show. I didn't get to interview them, Bethan Elfyn did, but I think they're absolutely brilliant. And we've interviewed each other.

The Maggot: It's nice to be liked by higher circles, if you know what I mean. More intelligent circles. It's nice that he's giving us a big up.

A lot of people were looking forward to the duet that never happened.

Aled: Hey, you leave them wanting more. You said it never happened, but it might happen. You never know.

You mentioned that it's a big stage and that you were getting a stitch towards the end.

Maggot: I was getting a stitch. I thought it was a coronary heart attack, but I'm all right now. It's very cold out there.

Aled: It's freezing out there. And earlier I was watching it on TV and I got itchy feet so I went to the gym in the hotel and pulled a muscle in my groin. So walking out to the middle of the stage was a bit tricky!

Maggot: Are you sure you did that in the gym?

Aled: Shh! Don't tell anyone!

There must be a certain unique atmosphere out there on stage.

Aled: It's unbelievable. There was an electricity I've never experienced before in my life. People are out there having a great time as well. I was worried about how they'd react to my music in the middle of pretty rocky sets, and they started swaying, and climbing on each other's shoulders and falling off, and being told off by security.

A couple of people were pogoing in the corner. It could only happen in Wales, you know. Everyone else said it wasn't possible, but they put this concert on in three weeks and it's massive.
