5 Live’s Olympic Question Time brought together a panel of special guests in Hackney to discuss the major Olympic issues. On the panel; Olympic Gold medallists sprinter Darren Campbell and swimmer Duncan Goodhew, Gail Emms a badminton silver medal winner at the 2004 Athens Games, the Chief Executive of LOCOG, Paul Deighton, Sport Minister Hugh Robertson, and DJ Trevor Nelson, Hackney born and bred and a 2012 ambassador. Among the many issues, they discussed if football should be an Olympic sport.
Another sport not associated with the Olympics is tennis but Venus Williams told the Ö÷²¥´óÐã World Service about overcoming Sjogren's syndrome to fulfil her desire for another Olympic medal.
Six months ago Adam Gemili was playing right-back for Thurrock FC, but this week the 18-year-old Londoner ran the second fastest time by a European athlete this year - 10.08 seconds. 5 Live Breakfast spoke to the rising star about his prospects of competing at the London Games.
For nine years, nine months and nine days, between the second of September1977 and the fourth of June 1987, Edwin Moses dominated the 400 metres hurdles. The double Olympian and 400 metres hurdle great revealed how athletics became commericalised with Colin Jackson and Mark Foster for The Olympic All Star Show. I now hear they are telling already selected torch carriers they can't now carry it as reps from the sponsoring companies are muscling in.
