Rumour mongering, us? NEVER!

Post categories:

Rigsy | 03:24 UK time, Thursday, 18 February 2010

Even though festival season seems ages away, the line ups for , and the have already been at least partially revealed and the first wave of bands playing Oxegen is expected to be officially confirmed next Tuesday with the Electric Picnic line up following on March 24.

Given it's freezing outside, not much is happening gig wise and things are generally a bit dull at the moment, we thought it'd be fun to start speculating who may end up among the headliners at Oxegen, Electric Picnic, and Belsonic. Something to look forward to, you know?

Keep in mind this is all purely for fun and shouldn't be considered as more than a selection of (reasonably) educated guesses from myself (Rigsy) and ATL's resident gig predictor (and scourge of the local promoter) Kevin Freeburn. Promoters have been a lot more secretive this year, cards have been held close to chests. Needless to say, we're both relishing the thought of looking very stupid indeed when these all turn out to be way off....

We look forward to adding your own tips to this little lot when we go on-air this Monday - get in touch via or email - or better still, just comment on this blog!

OXEGEN

Oxegen_2010.jpgTwo things are a certainty (going on changes made in the last couple of years) -Ìýthe line up will be really varied and full of Nordies.

As for headliners - ATL's money is on three of the following - Jay Z, Blink 182, Muse, Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, with Kasabian, Vampire Weekend, Florence and the Machine, Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Fatboy Slim, Biffy Clyro, Marina & The Diamonds, Foals, Dizzee Rascal, Friendly Fires, Doves, Wolfmother, The Gossip, The Temper Trap, Yeasayer, Faithless, La Roux, The Big Pink, Groove Armada, Jamie T, Mumford & Sons, Goldfrapp, Delphic and Editors amongst the bigger acts further down the bill.

In more general terms, we're predicting Oxegen to have it's biggest, most impressive line up ever.

BELSONIC

Very hard one to call - despite last year's heroics, Belsonic is still a relatively small festival (capacity wise) so you'd expect the acts to be....medium sized. But those guys seem incredibly excited about this years event, so who knows what ambitious bids are going in.

Calvin_Harris.jpgGiven last year's Belsonic included a full rave day, it's fair to assume there'll be similar this time around. Perhaps Richie Hawtin (under the Plastikman guise) is a possibility.

As for bands, we tip the likes of LCD Soundstem and Calvin Harris to be in the running, with MGMT, Gorillaz Sound System, Massive Attack, Friendly Fires, The Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip outside bets. In short, the hardest to call of the lot.

T VITAL

Doesn't look likely to happen, as far as we can tell, but we really hope to be proved wrong.

ELECTRIC PICNICRadiohead.jpg
ÌýÌý
Could be a blinding line up once again, with plenty of quality EP-type acts out and about.

We're tipping (rather wishfully in some cases) Radiohead, The Specials, The National, PiL, Sly Stone, De La Soul, Gil Scott Heron, Leftfield, Pavement, Joanna Newsom, Midlake, Grizzly Bear, Broken Social Scene, Wild Beasts, Jonsi, The Fall, Field Music, LCD Soundystem, Panda Bear, Ray Davies, Au Revoir Simone, Bat for Lashes, Battles, Bonnie Prince Billy, Cat Power, MIA, Phoenix, Hot Chip, Fever Ray and (fingers crossed for) Arcade Fire to be amongst the bill.

SLANE

Kings of Leon seem an absolute cert!

Remember, more scurrilous rumour mongering on Monday's show!
