Ready For The Weekend, with Nik Muzka
On the Dance Show this week we had some awesome new music from Christian Smith's new album 'Director's Cut' on Tronic, some Robert Babicz and Danny Howells and as well as a little taster from the brand new Gil Scott Heron album. Mr Scruff was in delivering his Criminal Record and we featured a guest mix from rising local techno producer Mark Rogan. Here are the tunes that did the damage...

Each week on the Dance Show we have a guest selector drop in to bring you news on some tasty club nights and tunes you need to get up close and personal with. This week Nik Muzka from Dread Disco was in....
When: Sat 6th March
What: Come 'n' Get It
Where: Queens Bar, Belfast
Why: This was the first night i ever DJ'd at in Belfast over 10 years ago in the Duke Of York, which later moved to the Front Page. The music policy was what first caught me first time I went as a punter and has been a huge influence on my DJ'ing and music choice ever since. A mish-mash of hip-hop, funk, soundtracks and what was to later become big-beat. If this new night is half as good as it was originally, it will be a great night out and I have no doubt it will grow to be as popular as it once was.
When: Sat 6th March
What: Bentley Rhythm Ace
Where: Laverys, Belfast
Why: B.R.A. hit Belfast on their new tour and i would expect a night of out-there beats and oddball tracks from this off-the-wall duo. I think this is exactly what Belfast needs as an alternative to the many dance and indie nights we have. I have fond memories of crazy nights out at the many big-beat nights happening back in the mid to late '90s and dancing to random music with a big cheesey grin. Hopefully 'Lavs' will continue to book these kind of artists and they get the support
When: Sat 20th Feb
What: Knee Deep
Where: Pavilion, Belfast
Why: Belfast's long-running funk night with local soul/funk legend DJ Andy is now at Pavilion Bar on the Ormeau Road. One thing that's always certain at these nights is a night of dancing. Nobody can sit down when James Brown or Bootsy Collins is playing. So if you like to shake your rumpa get down, get dirty and check out Knee Deep.

Some straight-up electro bass music from local producer Bryan Spence. This little piece of butt-shakin' groove sauce is best listened to up loud in a sweaty club at 1AM. Well produced with all the right elements (bass, beats, synths and squelches) coming together into a track every DJ should have in their arsenal. Keep an eye out for its release and support local talent, ya hear!!!!

I have only been introduced to this guy's music recently, though he has been producing some top-drawer house for a while now. This is a slightly different direction though, sounding like Jamie Lidell or Chromeo. A slice of future-electro-funk that would sound just as fresh in an underground club as it would on daytime radio. I'm loving this sound at the moment, very well produced electronica with a poppy crossover appeal. Look out for this guy and check out his Myspace below

Finally,Ìý we have one of the hottest duos in both production and DJing, 'The Beatmonkeys'. A lot of people will know these guys from their legendary DJ sets at Chibuku that sees them cut and slice hip-hop, house, breaks, garage, techno, D&B and cheeky bootlegs into a night of dancefloor mayhem. Previously, I've featured their single 'For The People' which featured Ty on vocals. This time they have teamed up with the excellent Foreign Beggars and manage to deliver another fine uptempo hip hop/breaks monster. The tracks puts me in mind of early '90s British hip-hop by the likes of Hijack or Gunshot with it's looped funk breaks and stabs but brought up to date with dirty bass crunchy beats. This is due out in March with an album to follow. 10/10, double thumbs-up and all that jazz, kinda thing.
