Chattering Classes #10 - Lafaro

Post categories:

ATL | 16:37 UK time, Thursday, 25 March 2010

LaFaro, photographed by Matt PattonLafaro are another one of those bands we've had in our lives for an age (first seen performing on ATL TV about six years ago) but that are only now getting round to a proper debut album. After being voted ATL's local act of the year twice in a row (2007 and 2008) and having their signature track, Tuppeny Nudger, voted the best Northern Irish song of the decade by AU, this lot are more than ready to be presented to the world. That presentation is in the form of debut album, Lafaro, due on Smalltown America this May.

Between now and then there's the small matter of two (soon to be sold out) shows in Belfast alongside shows in Warrenpoint, Derry and Draperstown. Before THAT though, Dave from the band has been held hostage and made to speak to our Rigsy...

3.00 rigsy says: word

3.01 Dave says: 'Sup g? howdo?

3.01 rigsy says: grand aye. where are ya? how are you spening this bright thursday afternoon

3.02 Dave says: i am in the Oh Yeah doing all sortsa fun stuff ! Postering later - woohoo! meeting charlene planning world domination. mwahahaha.

3:03 rigsy says: world domination which starts with this album. which i still haven't heard. is it any good? it really better be m8, it really better be

3:04 dave says: it's class - all filler no killer. I mean...um..

3:04 rigsy says: how does it compare to what you heard it sounding like in your head before you started recording?

3:05 dave says: not far off tbh. it's pretty much live lafaro but well produced. banged it out so quickly that it still has the energy too. reall happy with it =]

3:06 rigsy says: well produced....? whats been added?

3:07 dave says: well, compared with earlier recordings of this versionj of lafaro it certainly has more balls! we didn't spend long enough on it to confuse ourselves if u get me? some bands spend so long on things they don't know whats good anymore but we banged it out, made everything sound big and burned it.

3:07 rigsy says: totally. sounds very promising. the belfast launch then

3:07 Dave says: um hum

3:08 rigsy says: with general fiasco, ASIWYFA being very ambitious with venue, panama kings doing mandela etc, why did you choose somewhere so small? (the menagerie)

3:09 Dave says: well...we seem to thrive in the sweatbox environment. We like to party too and lets face it - the smaller the room the better the partay! large venues are great n all but we felt it would be more fun!

3:09 rigsy says: don't get me wrong, it's a great idea two sold out shows! well it will be. have to ask....what is lafaro's relationship with 'tuppeny nudger' like tehse days? was talking to general fiasco about them playing older songs and hoping not to get sick of them

3:10 Dave says: better than ever! its easy to get sick of opld songs but we have taken to messing with them a bit too. and as long as people still wana hear em we'll still wana play em

3:11 rigsy says: the equivalent of things being a little tired in the bedroom, so you try a little role play to spice things up??

3:12 Dave says: ha! summat like that! we're certainly more relaxed with the songs and know when they like to be felt up or left alone if u get me?

3:12 rigsy says: ha. lets move on. quickly.

3:12 Dave says: touring helpos mix em up cos new audiences havrent reactions

3:13 rigsy says: well thats the thing you are going to be a brand new band all over again when you're playing random towns off the back of a debut album whats the plan of action then for the next few weeks/months?

3:14 Dave says: well, asiwyfa tour nest week which we're well up for, tix selling well and great buzz off the back of zane playing the record

3:14 rigsy says: how long that last for?

3:14 Dave says: asiwyfa tour is a 10 dayer. nice weee short one!

3:15 rigsy says: then lafaro business after that? any festivals planned?

3:15 Dave says: we're looking into options throughout uk - lots of festivals hopefully !! we've a second album to write too!

3:16 rigsy says: amazing mate. well absolutely busting to hear it. the first one i mean. and looking forward to the gig in belfast. give the rest of the band a wee friendly pat on the bum from ATL will ya?

3:18 Dave says: will do haha! give yerself one too

3:19 rigsy says: just done so. (literally) see ya dave!

3:19 Dave says says: take her easy mate, see ya soon
