Villagers Q & A

ATL | 18:07 UK time, Monday, 29 March 2010

We like to think of ourselves as part of a metropolis here at ATL Towers, but we're not adverseÌýto mixing it with the yokels. To that end, we asked a Villager a few questions so we could better understand him and his type...

Hello there Conor, and how the Dickens are you right now?
Hi ATL, I've got a pain in the back my neck. Villagers went punk last night.

Why the heck should we give a stuff about your band then ;) ?
No reason at all. It'd be a real shame if you lived and died without ever hearing us though. A real waste of a life.

When and how did you all get it together to become Gods of Rock?
At the end of '08 I had a bunch of songs written, but I didn't know what to do with them. So I put them on the internet under the name 'Villagers'. Then people started asking when we were playing a show. So I asked some friends if they'd play with me. They said 'yes' and we played. Villagers was born.

TOPICAL QUESTION OF THE WEEK - Who do you fancy for the Champions' League final this year?
All I know about the Champions' League Final is that it made us have to move our Dublin show from the 22nd to the 23rd of April. That was a bit of a pain in the ass. It's football isn't it? It brings people together I suppose... but let's not forget that it also isolates people.

When can we see you over here, peddling your filthy wares?
Soon. Sooner than you may think (BELFAST 09 June Auntie Annies).

NON-LAZY, SPECIFIC BAND QUESTION #1 - Tell us how the connection to Domino, one of our fave ever labels, came about, and how are they treating their new signing?
It was all very simple really - they heard about the band, came to a couple of shows and signed us. They've been pretty amazing as far as record labels go - they haven't tried to change a thing creatively; Basically, I've been given a space to grow in.

Your house has been maliciously set ablaze by as yet un-named evil forces, but you have the strength to battle the flames and fumes to rescue one piece of music, what is it and why?
Easy, I'd rescue the hard-drive which stores my whole record collection. Failing that, maybe my vinyl of Robert Wyatt Live at the Theatre Royal, 1974.

NON-LAZY, SPECIFIC BAND QUESTION #2 - As an emerging artist, do you see yourself as being able to sustain a viable career in the music industry and how do you survive at the moment?
I can't even plan my day, let alone any sort of 'viable career'. I'm a mess. My life is a mess and it's getting worse.

Tell us this, if your where portrayed in a film, who would play you?
Cary Grant.

Who is the greatest human to have ever lived?
Someone nobody knows about, because her humility and grace disqualified her from this insipid fame game. Suffice to say, she was a great human.

Lastly, in three words describe life, the universe and everything within it.
I am God.
