Electric Picnic 2011 - Foster The People
Cosby Stage, Friday 2nd September, 7.30pm
Describe in a Tweet: Sweet indie pop troupe create Foster-mania...
What happened: This is ridiculous, but not totally surprising, as the Cosby Tent is crammed tight with punters keen to catch the hyped LA based band's first Irish appearance. Front man Mark Foster commands the stage with such charm and energy, that rarely do your eyes rove to the rest of the band. The typical, "my grandmother was Irish" chat is crowd pleasing as always, but it's endearing how genuinely excited the band seem to receive such a warm welcome in Ireland. The radio friendly hits are greeted with cheer after cheer, as punters are very willing to get wrapped up in the moment. 'Call It What You Want' melds elements of Scissor Sisters with Local Natives, as Mark dance's about the stage infectiously.
Good Fortune: 'Pumped Up Kicks' is almost a eurphoric moment with the whole tent singing the chorus back. A glorious pop song to finish on a high.
Evil: Let's face it, its a boyband with guitars. The double percussion gets a little old too, moving from adding excitment to the songs to, 'really, again?'.
EP rating: 7/10
