What happened: Little Green Cars have taken off in the past few months. With airplay on Radio 1 and significant backing from the Irish blogosphere there's a real sense of momentum right now for the band and we would argue it's justified. In The John Wayne, Little Green Cars have one of the strongest singles we've heard this year, a track that's simple at first glance but just effortlessly layered to create something magical. Four part harmonies, big choruses and more hooks than a hardware shop provide the backbone for a confident performance that is quite simply flabbergasting at times. The frontman isn't afraid to reach the higher notes in his register and for the most part he's faultless, adding a real beauty to proceedings. Faye O'Rourke on the other hand provides rich, soulful harmonies reminiscent of Stevie Nicks but can come to the forefront if needed as demonstrated in My Love Came Down To The River To Silence Me. Strong on record but unmissable live.

Good Fortune: The Cage is Little Green Cars' tour de force, a gorgeous vulnerablility added to the complex vocals. The crowd, generally mumbling throughout the performance, finally focus on the band in front of them and they're richly rewarded.

Evil: There's too much reliance on "oohs", "aahs" and "coos". While it sounds delightful, it can become a little repetitive as the performance progresses.

EP rating: 8/10
