Electric Picnic 2011 - Sinéad O'Connor
Main Stage, Friday 2nd September, 5.30pm
Describe in a Tweet: Sinead O’Connor temporarily drops her public pursuit of a new man to play some music.
What happened: Artists like O’Connor always add an element of the unexpected to proceedings. A volatile performer on the best of days, ATL were of the opinion that literally ANYTHING could happen. Sure she had most of the lyrics printed out in front of her, and of course she banned the photographers from any "up close" shots, not to mention she spent the first two songs shooting daggers at the sound man for who knows what - but for the most part, Sinead delivered a very solid, if slightly stale, set. Even finding time to dedicate I Am Stretched On Your Grave to the late Amy Winehouse.

Good Fortune: Nothing Compared 2 U was well worth the wait, for those who hadn’t already walked off. The voice is pretty much still there. But in terms of expectations, maybe when you set the bar so low - anything other than a train wreck performance is seen as a glowing success.
Evil: For all her celtic crooning and lyrical shots across the Vatican’s bow (see new album, Ö÷²¥´óÐã), it was the big teary ballad that everyone was waiting for. Her cross to bear, so to speak?
EP rating: 6/10
