Beauty Sleep

Performing with an excitement you’d expect from a band who recently announced their debut album, Beauty Sleep’s indie-pop felt at its height tonight. Working up a dreamy build with opener 'The Feeling Back', their characteristic red apparel carried their quirky, playful but resolute energy. And surprisingly so, considering less than an hour ago Cheylene had been on bass duty with Catalan. Harnessing the welcomed chaotic atmosphere of the evening, the band acknowledge the venue's “awkward entrance” fondly, encouraging the clamour of bodies in and out to build their momentum. Tonight nothing is an obstacle.

These elements of fun translate directly into their set, with scuzzy guitars and 80-tinged melodic synth lines seeping under Cheylene’s piercing, on-the-nose vocal runs. Charged with a feel-good ethos, the set was summarised in the band’s parting message: “Be good to yourself, be good to others. Take it easy.”
