Me neither. Nothing I've suggested has made it past the montage for weeks. I remember Scotch Git didn't get a mention for about six weeks once and I'm fairly certain I'm right up there with him.

yep, a Northern Soul night would be epic. The 'award' for for the abandoned 'producer of the year' is a magnificent Northern Soul box set with really fanstatsic sleeve notes/booklet and lots of photies, posters, stories from the Wigan casino DJ's etc. Since the scores were pretty even over a couple of months and since I began to realise the themes they were dumped with could make a big difference, I decided to award them all equally. In a reversal of 'prizes for all' they apparently are not allowed 'prizes' anyway.

Since they are all young enough to have no idea what Wigan Casino was, I shall arrange to deliver 'A Complete Introduction To Northern Soul', hopefully they will be as captiveted as some of the rest us and grant us bloggers a Northern Soul theme.

Turning to this theme:

is probably the most important song written about trains in long enough, from the Album 'London Undersound' it's about travelling on the tube on the day of the Menezes shooting.

However, although I feel certain it would be track of the night, since I've suggested it on present form we won't be hearing that so let's try something much more obvious:

having received my uniform and other functional requirements from a location in canning town i decided to travel on the 5.38am friday 27th april, from euston station.......

let me pick up on the story............

the passengers were enjoying the early morning train ride through the english countryside whose colours and poetry could have been penned by wordsworth and turner......commuters from wigan, city types from the city,duh, treckers heading for the lakes, perhaps there were those visiting/leaving a loved ones, children 'doggin' school, and healthy young bubbly types with bicycles.....by the time we'de reached preston the coach i was in , carriage D, was a place of peace and contentment. preston station was busy as the train pulled up for a scheduled stop....the chimes from the tannoy were to inform the passengers that we were at preston and that those leaving should have a safe onwards journey and those remaining should continue the ambiance of the ride etc etc etc.......

however.....

cue the chime chime chime from the tannoy.................

THIS IS THE TRAIN MANAGER.....THE PERSON WHO OWNS THE BICYCLE IN CARRIAGE D,THAT'S SITTING OUTSIDE THE TOILET, BLOCKING THE PASSAGEWAY HAS 1 MINUTE TO MOVE IT OR ITS BEING LEFT ON THE PLATFORM.

now, if you can't remembers this phrase, ask an ageing relative, there is a bit of tennis history where a certain nameless tennis diva used the phrase 'YOU CANNOT BE SURIOUS'.......

but as you all know, with officialdom.....they can be surious.....so after much flapping and unbelievably the flourishing of official letters giving the bicycle permission to be on the train a major international outbreak of war was just by the skin of its teeth...averted.

I sat quietly averting my gaze and began sipping the tea i'de bought at euston 3 hours earlier, i know....yeeeeuk...

i could have used my diplomatic skills to defuse this highly volatile scenario with a simple suggestion to the charity cyclists.

next time put your bike on here....
