BLOG 311

Chris Evans | 15:27 UK time, Thursday, 19 June 2008

No blog yesterday ?

Wrong !

Brill blog yesterday but disappered, like the crew of the Mary Celeste or my hair pre Harley Street visit circa twelve months ago.

In short it was about the fact that I had the chance to have a bacon butty but actually didn't want one. Sacrilege I know and obviously eventually I had it anyway but, oh well it was much longer and funnier and everything. Even interactive Ian couldn't relocate the original blog 311. Alas it was never meant to be. Wonder if this one will make it.

Had our first big meeting about this year's Drvietime dine and dance and now annual golf tournament. All for Children In Need of course. Looks pretty good I have to say and live in my pub at the end of it all. Damn fine.

Other commitments today include the continuing process of managing the new car. The Coburn Spyder arrives next week and has been the cause of "the most invites to events I have ever received." I swear I could give up work and just make a living taking bookings for this car to appear at various motor shows around the world. (Not a bad idea come to think of it.)

More big news in the vehicle world to come.

Appeared on Five Live today to talk about the great Tiger Woods being out for the rest of the season. Always get dead nervous being on other peoples' shows, even a good chap like Mr. Mayo, just never want to let peeps down. Apparently made enough to sense not to have to go and hide.

Last meeting was ten minutes ago to discuss a new cinema ad for the show. What's going on, it's like the old days.

I have to say I love it, well I don't have to, but you know what I mean.

CLP.

All Request Friday - first song got to be Terry Jacks "Seasons in the Sun".

Why ? 'Cos it's fab. OK OK it's a bit sad, but fab nevertheless and after hearing it, the weekend can only get better and better !!

    Cheerio.

Christoff , Big Chief, Lammie-Pie, you musts be so excited, what with the new arrival and what-not - it must be like Christmas eves, many moons ago when we were all bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and innocent . . hope you get the same kick at the weekend . . .

I'm giddy at the minute too . . but can't really say why here - might tell you some other time . . .

I went throguh exactly the same bacon-buttie dilemma this morning. Since I arrived at t'office at 8.30, I could think of nothing else - didnt want fruit, didnt want cereal - just wanted a ketchup-covered hot white bacon sandwich. Then, the guilty shoulder started whispering about my recent (2 years) lack of gym attendance and my penchant for lateral relaxation, of an evening.
"But, my chisselled friend", I answered back, "I walked around a golf course yesterday for 18 long holes so I bloody well deserve it!"

The shoulder relaxed and I ended up eating a BROWN WHOLEMEAL bacon butty as a comprimsie, - lots of ketchup - and I have to say, not bad, same endorphins kicked in, same grin, same post-swallow sigh and subsequent guilt - not bad at all . . .

    Or am I getting carried away . . ??

Hello Christoph! So even you are victim of the blog gremlins... Wonder where it went, how strange. All is forgiven though, especially as you eventually had the bacon butty :)

Any hugs what have been directed to Lochinver in search of the Highlandlass may need redirecting, poor lass got confused and ended up in Lochcarron :) but says it's just as nice there as well.

ARF request from a befuddled Highlandlass is.... yep you guessed it, Queen - DON'T STOP ME NOW!! And you can blame it on EJR apparently, it's going round her head non-stop pretty much :)

Great show as always, shame about being bingoed, with yesterdays blog. As this summer, when ever it starts, is
horrible so far. How about Bryan Adams, SUMMER of 69 for ARF. I am sure that year must have had a good summer. If not that one Queen,s Dont Stop Me Now, I tried for that one last week.

Good morning from Hanmer Springs New Zealand - it is minus 4 outside so i am inside blogging. Sat in the thermal springs from 4pm till 8pm until the sulphur drove me out into the sub-zero temperatures. I felt so relaxed. The water was at 41 degrees c and the outside temp was about zero. Next on my to buy list is an outdoor heated bath. Laying there looking up at the stars and listening to the folks chatting around me. Many are actually ex-pats who are disgruntled to see so many poms in NZ...had to giggle quietly to myself.

Was gently chatted up by an aussie wife (shame on her..hehehehe) for a while and so I made my excuses and moved to a hotter pool where she could not follow...lol..

I am astounded by all the lovely people here asking for Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. It really has become my anthem out here and I religiously play it as I set off on my day's driving. So thank you all sooooo much for asking for it for ARF!!! If Chris plays it this week I will be able to catch it on Listen again (just) as I shall be back in blighty on the 28th..finger crossed.

Go onb Chris all the lovely ladies here have asked for it and you would be ungallant to refuse such a request form such lovelies!!!

Well...got to head off for the day - Whale watching today (if I am in luck) and then perhaps onto Picton for the night to see if I can get an earlier ferry back to North Island as I have a wish to "take the waters" at Rotorua!!

    Later xxx

  • Comment number 33.

I'm afraid I'm not with you on this one CtD.

We may be ink-buds and rock-nuts but I'm with Gingembre - Queen never really did it for me.

I appreciate their contribution in the grand scheme of rock 'n' roll history and Freddie was an amazing showman, but it was all a little too 'theatrical' for my liking.

Like The Clash. I really want to like their stuff - London Calling is the unofficial anthem down at Craven Cottage - but it all sounds a bit too, well, 'cod-punk'. If that isn't a bona fide music term it ought to be.

So, ARF? While I'm in a jingly-jangly indie mood it has to be

The Boy With The Thorn In His Side - The Smiths.

From the aforementioned album that I'm sure her Maj has on her ipod (other MP3s etc etc).

Have a wonderful weekend one and all

    Much peace, huge love

Can't believe you were bingo'd CLP. Hahaha. Sorry...

Don't know about anyone else, but I always find the idea of a bacon buttie is better than the reality. I'm always ever so slightly disappointed afterwards... Give me a sausage butty any day. Beesmum - black pudding???

i have chosen don't stop me now to be played at my funeral as i go through the curtains, but i wouldn't mind if you played it on friday, however my choice would be dizzy, or ruby tuesday, or yellow submarine. there are just to many songs to pick one, i would need a chance to choose at least 10, so i figure i will just have to listen, i know i will enjoy the show whatever is played.

Good morning one and all, yes indeed Gingembre it is well and truly morning. How many cups so far? ;)

I am now craving bacon (or more probably, sausage) butties. Well, butty, singular.

Brain started spouting nonsense through my fingers last night chatting to hubby online (how sad is that, one in the office upstairs, one on the laptop...) and sadly after a nights' sleep, the nonsense hasn't stopped so I'll KISS and stop very soon before my concentration lapses and nonsense starts leaking again.

We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizards at the hospital today, with their spangly special viewing machines! Am rather excited and really should get up and dressed and ready to go....

Hope you are all well, sorry to hear someone's got a hangover!! Didn't realise Mrs W was Norwich Unionite, so is Mr M!! He's nearly done his 25 years poor man, I only managed 6 years and that was enough for me!

It has been a pretty stressful week here, I've realised that building work and childminding are not a particularly pleasant combination. Oh well, it'll be worth it when it's over.

Obviously I would love to hear Don't Stop Me Now for CtD and everyone else on here, but otherwise a bit of Travis Why Does It always Rain On Me? would be great as it's the school fete tomorrow and I'm helping on the barbecue so you can guarantee torrential rail between 12 and 2!

I think I caught the gobsmackers last night the first record really was great and I hadn't heard it in a while and the second was double dutch with its memories of two skipping ropes which I couldn't do.

Had a wonderful week, went to my first May Ball and had a super time. Other events planned for weekend too and to cap it all the kids will be away for the weekend - so it has to be "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen for ARF please.

Happy Friday you bunch of barkers! Mad as a box of frogs on acid with a glow stick.
I've hopefully been noticeable by my absinthe...

Anyhoo, all is well chez Badger, so pour le vendredi tous les demandes...I'd like to hear 'Fernando' by Abba if you'd be so kind please.

Black poodin's black terday mother! And most definitely best avoided....

    Rest in peace, Ben

Yes, young Jo, I even have a new job, but you may not know that. Am trusting young G is eating these objects and not just pulling them down. My favourite thing that babies do is when they eat keys.

So nice to get a woop woop! Here's a knee-naaaa back atcha!!!

Will try to stay about today, but I do have work to do...and it's quite nice to akshully be able to say that!

Pear cider. Is a bit of an acquired flavour, and took me about 1/2pt to aquire it. For those of you brave enuff, I can recommend 'Haymaker'. I think so-called because you have to go and lie on the grass somewhere cool once you've had a glass or two, and then can't get up for quite some time. Cheryl, right up your street I'd have thought...ahem...strickly in the festival sense of course...but never Ice...

    Oho no

Just starting an "alternative to Queen" movement - obviously not alternative to HRH but as a 1st record this evening.

    My preference is for:

"Mary's place" by (HRH) Bruce Springsteen

... particularly for my fave Mary who is off to France with loads of school kids on Sunday via a night in London tonight and a Hen do on a boat off the Eastbourne coast tomorrow - and all without me - shame!

  • Comment number 96.

    Mornin' all, only just!

D'you know it's either a feast or a famine here. Didn't get out of here til 6.30 last night, today nothing to do. Hey ho.

Gingembre - hair of the dog man, works every time. Probably not at 7am with the jam-eaters though... And whale watching ROFL!!

Jumpingbean, good luck for today, let us know how you get on.

hazel_love, welcome back!! How's the job going?

Beesmum, one up on the old gits. Nice one!!

    Chris,

Re yesterday's blog: it's the thought that counts : )

Can't wait for the Drivetime Dinner Dance - will dust of little black dress in anticipation.

Grear idea re 'car appearances'. Methinks you need an 'automobile appearance agent'....I know just the gal. She understands that black is the new white, which was the new silver, she knows very little about cars (which is a good thing, not sure why, but it's my day off and I don't need to think of reasons today : )).......just let me know.

Easyjob: your posts are taking me way back when......way back to my gap year ('blimey, did they have 'years' back then', I hear you all cry).......I worked on a sheep farm in Wanganui, NI for 4 months. I did a tour of the SI which was .......wild. Nuff said. I remember blaming an appauling hangover on a dodgy prawn. I think the winds off Wellington had blown it off course, or something. Fab country. Enjoy

On another note......my inability to sustain a relationship manifested itself once more this morning. My boss urged me to purchase a tomtom (on the house, or dashboard to be precise but you know what I mean). Purchased one this morning. His name is Tim Tomtom. We had hardly exited the retail park together before we had had our first argument. It went like this:

    Tim: Turn left
Me: I can't....they changed the layout
    Tim: Turn left
    Me: I TOLD YOU I CAN'T

he then ignored me for a few minutes until he retracked .......i've stuffed him in the glove compartment.

    laters

    mange tout

ps ARF I Feel Good for Keith and Mary, in the hope that they do

  • Comment number 100.

LOL Gaby. I hope you and Tim TomTom gain a mutual trust and understanding of eachother.

I hate SatNavs!!! Once got sent from Northampton to where I live in Suffolk via the M1 south, M25, M11, Stanstead, A120 etc etc.

    I ONLY WANTED THE A14 !!!!!

    Big love.

    CtD xxxxxx

AF - of course! xxxxxx :-)))))
