Morning all. Chris, I have loved Mel and Sue since they were gawky youngsters feeling their way on Light Lunch. I used to video it and watch it when I got in from work. Is the bake off programme made by the same people who do The Restaurant? Even though it's filmed largely in a tent it has the same lovely quality to the way it looks.

It's lashing it down here. I'm not ready for Autumn quite yet.

Hi folks, new boy John here! The bake off!!!! My daughter Laura is in love BIG TIME with Paul Hollywood.....we even watched the scone making bit at the end of the programme. At present she's 27 going on 16! Chris, can you arrange a meet? We are talking 'in love'. She is a fellow lecturer, like me her dad, so we're talking pretty level headed.....hm!....that is debatable I suppose. So if anyone out there is in the know with repsect to signed photos.........or can arrange for Paul to be stranded on a desert island then get Laura flown over and dropped off to rescue him......but not straight away, I'd be obliged!

My advice: yer can even go first class & ave a meal.... and a kip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arriving Paddington at 13.44... My advice: you'll be completely stress free & in total safety with still over 5 'ours until The One Show gig kicks off!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Thought for the day was so true Chris. The Internet does rather act as a sort of Hide and Seek game for some I am sure of that.
For others is simply a matter of keeping in touch with long distance friends or relatives.

However I have never quite understood Social Networking sites where people
add strangers they have never met just to boost the number of friends they have.

If I am on a train I am hardly going to approach my fellow passengers asking them for their email addys poking them to play scrabble.

I prefer Hide and seek.

Am now really stressed because I need to get to Ardrossan tomorrow very early. Anyone any idea how long the battery lasts in these things? The journey is about 2 hours.

Spent today at an African adventure zoo thingy (trying hard not to name drop there and get moderated) with MrsW,the kids and my folks. Had a lovely day too despite car failing on me on way home - well the battery died to be precise but a great man in a van with 3 letters on the side helped and was brilliant (other vans with letters available), 3 sleeps 'til France and Spurs on tv tonight, come on the lilywhites (will do ironing whilst watching).

Do you have a charger that you can use in the house ??? My sat nav is a death trap, and tells me to turn round in the middle of the motorway. Funny how my friend doesn't want it back and insists i keep it . It has caused more rows and i cant get it to work properly. Last time, i slung it on the back in temper, and all the way to London this little voice in the back kept telling me about speed cameras , for four hours non stop.

Didn't watch the baking thingy last night, but I do agree that Mel and Sue are great. Does anyone else remember they did a lunch time show a few years ago? I liked that.

It's Friday in my world today, need to get a couple of cards tomorrow: one for my cousins daughter who acheived stellar results in her GCSEs, and one for my wee Goddaughter who is 2 on Tuesday. I might have another wee wander round the festival too.

Hi csn - I immediately felt like I was back at school again, only this time I didn't have to hold my hand out and wait for the thwack! Oh well, all in a days blogging. Actually I had this fantastic idea. I teach all subjects to special needs adults, so I thought that perhaps I could tell them about you all and put down some of their comments here, especially as I often replay the morning show when we're doing art and craft and cooking. It'll be great for communication and I am sure that you will all be there on occasion to welcome them aboard. We can only try....and it might encourage some of them to use the 'puter and blog too. What are peoples thoughts?

Guys I've thought long and hard about posting this evening. But I feel I have to do this, and so with apologies to the 'newbies', who may not be familiar with what I'm about to tell you, here goes.

I haven't posted for a little while because I've had some profoundly sad news. My lovely, big daft eejit friend, Damian, the GBF, has passed away.

I'm not going to go into any details; I shall never do that because that's not for here. But since the said GBF was such a big part of my life, and hence my bringing him to all of you, I think it's right I tell you.

It's true to say I'm searingly shocked and it's no exaggeration to say I'm heartbroken; and yet, in some way, not surprised that this has happened. Damian, as is the way with most natural comedians, not to say talented and gifted artists, had a very dark side which I never revealed here, and nor will I. Ever. On the contrary, I shared with you the many hilarious antics and situations he presented me with, the memories of which I now hold precious. Ours was, above all, a meeting of extremely silly minds with the most staggering appetite for nonsense, and sharing it with each other. Faced with any slightly bizarre sight or situation, in a split second we would barely glance sideways and we were off, in a fit of laughing. I called him Podge; he called me Rodge. Of course, we had our spats; Damian was notoriously unpredictable and so, so bold, he used to simply LOVE winding me up; and being the control freak that I am, it used to work like a charm, sending me into a frenzy, albeit usually mock. I can't count the times we've been seen, at my statuesque 5 ft., himself 6'2", my one hand on the scruff of his neck, the other with his arm up his back, marching him off somewhere to give him a sound thrashing. Metaphorically, of course.. And then again, he often actually used to seriously infuriate me, so much so that at one period during the 10 years I was privileged to be his friend, I actually did withdraw contact until he sorted himself out. But we restored our friendship and all was well.

But if there was anyone who personnified the saying, Live Hard, Die Young, it was Damian. I think I always suspected I might get that terrible phone call one day, one way or another.

So, my lovely friends, tomorrow I'm off over the Irish Sea to attend his funeral. I'm so sad it's hard to breathe.

However. What I do NOT want is to bring the blog 'down', as you would say. On the contrary, I want to say this to you. I KNOW you will be thinking about me, I KNOW you are sending me those lovely, healing 'vibes' you are all so brilliant at sending. And I KNOW you will feel the sadness with me; it goes without saying and I so appreciate it.

And yet, wherever you found Damian, there was so much laughter and fun. And we must all keep this sense of fun and joie de vivre going, life is precious and priceless. So please, if you believe, then say a prayer, if you don't, then take a few seconds to contemplate the gift that is life and laughter. And then KEEP THE LAUGHTER GOING. Sadness is not for here. Goodness knows, our host CLP is laughter and siliness personnified. I shall perhaps not be around for a little while whilst I retreat into my little shell and gather my thoughts; meanwhile there will be an extra star in the sky tonight. Find it and raise a Slainte to it; and then grab life with both hands and cherish it.

This, for me, will pass. And I shall be left with the most priceless gift of some fantastic memories of my lovely friend and soul-mate.

Who, I have to say, if 'e was 'ere now, I'd kill 'im.

See. Nothing a laff can't cure.

I guess I am going to be one of many that answer your blog, but what a privilege it is to have someone who was your soul-mate and always will be. It does get better, we all know that anyway, but there are times when the smallest things bring back the biggest memories. When those times happen it is the biggest thrill of all. He'll be there, dusting down your chair and making sure that it's ready for you whenever you meet up again. Viva soul mates.

He'll be fine, my mum made the best cup of tea ever, and my dad knew the filthiest jokes this side of the equator, they'll make sure he's sorted.

Thanks for that. When they were with us I could bring in anybody and they made sure that strangers made as welcome as if they had known them for years. Fortunately it's rubbed off and we tend to be an open house!!!

Clodagh - what sad news... but... what wonderful memories Damien has given you and you are right - as long as we breath there should be fun and laughter to die for... (I know that's a bad pun but I certainly intend to laugh and smile all the way to the end - whenever that might be!)

So I say "cheers" to Damien - I am raising my glass to a man who has given us lots of laughs on this blog - albeit - vicariously! Thanks Clodagh... xxx

I am so sorry to read your post. I feel your pain and wish that your trip across the Irish Sea is calm and your visit to the Emerald Island a celebration of the BFG's life. From how you describe the big daft eejitI am sure he would want his finale to be surrounded by smiles.

Stay strong honey, you know this is a safe place and a warm {{hug}} or two will always be here for you.
