Last day on the radio...

Chris Evans | 13:44 UK time, Thursday, 29 March 2012

...(2 that is) for a fortnight tomorrow.

But what a way to go.

We will all have the pleasure of Breakfast with Matt Lucas tomorrow. Now there's a clever guy. Can't wait to get stuck into a big old meaty chat with him.

In the meantime, I'm off for a pasty whilst they are still cooler than the ambient temperature.

Peace and Love

    Hiya Chris,

I've come up with a plan for the first week you are away I'm going to listen again to this weeks shows so that I can still hear you in the mornings - don't know what I will do the second week ;o(

Not a fan of Matt Lucas but as with most of your interviews you bring out the best in people so I am sure it will be an interesting one as always.

I hope you, Natasha and Noah have a lovely break xx

Hope everyone is okay and continuing to enjoy the sunshine!

    Have a good day folks!

    Mary xx

Mr Evans you do it to me everytime.

Oh by the way thanks for the duelling banjo's this morning it was bloomin marvellous a big favourite of mine reminds me of my ole dad who use to play the banjo before his car accident.

Matt Lucas - is officially hilarious ask him about his stint in Les Miserable its his all time favourite musical.

What with Pasties, petrol and stamps I honestly cant take anymore the country is going to the dogs..................

Oh and I suppose it will be RM for the next two weeks, ummmppphhh! ipod and Spanish CD in the car then as I need to learn some of the lingo before I head off on my holidays, cant bear RM.

    Have nice break Mr Evans

    CB xx

  • Comment number 3.

Looks like we'll have to find another radio station for a fortnight then!

Why don't they put a decent replacement in whilst you on leave? Richard Allinson is better than Madely (who makes it like a breakfast show to send people to sleep).

Why not get Graham Norton or Chris Tarrant?

The same applies to Simons Drive Time.

But its the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and they don't care about listeners as they have the money already!

  • Comment number 4.

    Afternoon All,

It's cracking the flagstones here, but alas it's not to last!

Chris, Have a fab holiday and you will be missed.

I must get my act together and find another radio station to listen to for the next two weeks. Although you are in danger if everyone switches over so they don't have to listen to RM, you better hope that they don't find a better radio station and never switch back. That's the peril you face for not listening to your listeners and keep getting RM to stand in for you. I know you said you have no control over it, but I find that hard to believe!! Can you not bring back Terry for a week at least?

    Ranty pants off!

Nothing wild or exciting to report.

Hope everyone is having a good Thursday.

    Aye Up comrades!

Chris, are you moonlighting somewhere else, radio-wise?!? Is it golf time again and your busman's holibob on R5Live?

I seem to recall some weeks back there was muchos excitement on the tweetsphere that the original Candyman, Mr Danny Baker, would be sitting in for our Chris for his 2 week vacance in April. Is that not so anymore :-(

Apologies for lack of blog action - I've been sooooooo busy this week, but I ain't complaining!

One more thing from the Parish Noticeboard (although a tad early ....)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLP FOR 1ST APRIL! and have a fab holiday.

    See Chris,

That's four people already who are not going to listen to Radio 2 in the mornings for the next fortnight. I wonder how many of your 9 million listeners will tune in elsewhere?!?!?

I would be interested to see the listening figures for when RM is sitting in for you.

    AliB

  • Comment number 7.

They aren't intersted in listening figures -- Its the special way they are funded -- which means they put their friends or who they like on.

Perhaps Chris should get the Radio 2 controller to post here!

  • Comment number 8.

OK, not sure how long this will stay here for and sorry Modders if I'm breakign the rules (I'm sure you'll tell me via email!) but there's some interesting opinions on here, not just about RM but CLP, Miranda Hart, Danny Baker etc.

    Hi Deevs,

I've had a peak and I think it goes to prove that you can't please everybody. It would have been great if DB was standing in though.

Glad the work situation is buzzing - who'd have thunk it this time last year eh? Well done you xx

    Hello Chris.

Enjoy your pasty Chris. I bought the pack of sausage rolls which were neither too hot nor too cold. What are going to do about that one?

Enjoy your holiday and a very happy birthday for 1st April (I think I've mentioned before that this was my wedding anniversay).

I agree with those who have suggested Graham Norton, Richard Allinson or could Sir Tel be let out of the twilight home for the bewildered for two weeks.

Can you please ask Matt Lucas to give us one of his songs:

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 12.

How's about Paul O'Grady sitting in for CLP - he's hilarious on Sunday teatimes!

And if the pasties/sausage rolls etc are too hot, can we sue the vendor for damages?

Afternoon each from sunny Fife, although it seems snow might appear next week - Bums

Really enjoyed the show this morning Chris, but will probably miss Matt tomorrow. I arrive for babysitting duties about 8.15 and have to switch off.

    Hope you enjoyed your pasty.

    Back in a bit. xxxxx

  • Comment number 14.

I'd go for Graham Norton - really like his show on Saturdays.

I will listen while Chris is off, but only because I can't work out how to change stations on the car radio. I do, however, have Adele on the cd so might swop to her.

Ali, loved your rant - it's so unlike you.

Have been working all day and now have loads of students' folders to look at, but I'll try and ignore them till Monday. I have to keep reminding myself I only get paid for 6hrs a week.

Ooo, and ps: Nazareth! - who'd have thought Chris would play them? Man in the cupboard is friend of their singer, who used to live in Scotland and now, I believe, lives in America.

    xxxx

  • Comment number 15.

    Evening all

MBD, thanks for the explanation re Queen.

I don't mind Chris being off so much during the school holidays. Even if I'm going to work, our mornings are a bit lazier so I never listen to the radio as much as normal

Just been to pick up a puppy cage for Gibbs - that's one thing off the list!!

    More shopping at the weekend!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 16.

Sezza, I love a lazy morning - enjoy.

Just googled Nazareth and Manny wasn't the singer at all - he was the guitarist. Shows that I know nothing!!

Time to dust off some CD's again.

  • Comment number 18.

    Hi all

I will also be tuning somewhere else for the next two weeks as I can't stand the self centred, self promoting RM.

Loli is there no news about your daughter yet - maybe your grandchild want to arrive for Christophe's birthday?

    Love and hugs

Hi Chris and team, Great to see Chris Barrie (Brittas) getting the England coaching job. All that experience running a leisure centre payed off....happy Easter!

  • Comment number 20.

Right so with MaddyMoon and CleverSuperNanny safely tucked up I have a clear run in to the 50th post.

An hour and half should do it.

  • Comment number 21.

    Good morning all,

Hazy this morning and a bit frosty (the weather that is), but hopefully it will be lovely again.

As much as I don't enjoy RM in the mornings, I will be tuning in as I can't stand commercial radio due to the adverts, I can't stand them, on the TV either, we cloud+ everything for that very reason, between the adverts and the promotional clips at the start of every programme, they drive me nuts, so RM is preferrrable to that I'm afraid.

Hotel night booked so that's something to look forward to.

D said he had to queue for diesel last night, he wasn't panic buying as we both fill up every week, him on a Thursday on the way home from work, and me whenever I do the shopping, which will be today after work, so I really hope there isn't a queue, or worse, no diesel!

Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning everyone

No cricket this morning, so CLP is blasting out thru the tellybox keeping me company.

A bit grey and overcast here at the mo, and definitely a chill in the air at 6.15 when I stood in the garden with PuppyMutt. Hopefully it'll clear up and be brighter later, although it WILL rain tomorrow as we're planning a lovely day out with MiniNic (although where we're going is indoors).

Sezza - you won't regret the crate investment. Also, MW,a's shop had poopy bags on special offer the other week - might be worth checking out, as you'll get through a fair few! I never thought using a "scooper" would become second nature - it's fast becoming my all-time favourite gadget ever ......... ;-)

I'm so glad it's Friday. This week has been manic (but in a good way). I had another job confirmed yesterday afternoon - proof reading the contents of a web site for a new company launch. Something different, and really looking forward to doing that. I've also got 2 new social media contracts starting on Monday - it's good getting paid to work on FB and Twitter. Kind of ironic really!

*stands back and waits for the abuse to begin*

Let's get today out of the way and let the weekend begin!

    Hi everyone:

I am so relieved it's Friday at last. Every morning this week has been a struggle - I can't believe the mayhem losing one hour can cause!

Looking forward to the weekend - MrS and I are off to see Gallagher & Lyle on Saturday night - loved them in the 70's, and I would think their show will be terrific - they have written some fantastic songs.

Other than that, not a lot on the agenda - other than looking out my boots and winter coat again ... aarrggh!

Cheryl: thanks for the link for Noah and Chris - just fantastic, Noah is gorgeous, and Chris is not half-bad either!

    Have a great Friday, all.

    C xx

  • Comment number 30.

My pleasure Chrissie! And enjoy Gallagher & Lyle - here's hoping you don't end up Wide Eyed & Legless (or maybe on the other hand .....!)

Wasn't "Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve" one of their songs too? I always get an image of the great Kenny Everitt when I hear that track, and smile at the memory of his daftness. UToob it if I've lost you - it's worth it!

It's definitely colder here today. No sign of the cloud lifting and my toes and fingers are frozen after some garden time with Randall. The grass is also wet, so now I have a wet dog. I've just mopped the kitchen floor (again) - let's see how long it lasts. Sezza - I hope you're not too houseproud ......!

Susan - did you get any fuel? I've been reading tweets all morning from prople struggling to find garages with any petrol or diesel left. I'm just glad I work at home and don't do that many miles now. I've got half a tank which should see me through the next couple of weeks.

I've had an email saying that we've got some tickets due today, which I will need to sign for. This is really annoying as I need to go and have a shower, wash my hair, put make-up on etc. I can't go to the hairdressers or do the weekly shop looking like a bag lady.

Some may say - what's new!?!?! lol

Chrissie, I agree about the struggle getting up this week, it's been the same for me. I am really looking forward to next weekend and the extra days off xx

Deevs, Well done on all the work and the busy week xx

G, I hope you get your diesel. I filled up last weekend, so am OK for a while. I haven't seen any panic buying here, perhaps I've just not been looking!

Tonight I am off to London with my bestest friend, two nights in a hotel and Sarah Millican at the Hammersmith Apollo tomorrow night - can't wait. I predict a lot of shopping, coffee drinking, giggles, fry ups and lazy mornings. I'll report back Sunday evening.

Cheryl: oooh, you'll have to guide me to wear I can find that KE sketch! I had a quick look, but of course, have no idea where it is! I would think Wide Eyed, etc is a distinct possibility, but just to let you know, that was by Andy Fairweather-Low! Not to worry, you were just a wee chicken when these songs were on the go!

AliB: have a fantastic weekend - you are sure to have a wonderful time. xx

PJ: good luck to your colleague - a couple of people I know who are retired are now so busy, they have no idea how they ever had time to work!

    Sal: I LOVE Dad's Army!

I have three bosses at work - one is on holiday, the other one is away for the weekend, and the third one has just suggested taking me for lunch at 1pm - result!

  • Comment number 36.

Ooops! good job it wasn't a question on PopMaster!

I had a look for the KE sketch - I was going to post it on here but can't find it anywhere, which really surprised me. I can just remember Kenny at a kitchen worktop, doing something like prepping food, with "Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve" playing in the background, and he had a massive pumping bright red heart strapped to his sleeve. I was only about 12 and I remember howling with laughter at the sheer silliness of it. At the time, a lot of his stuff went over my head and it's only now I can see how rude some of it was. I do recall getting very embarrassed whenever Hot Gossip came on and did their bit, but at the same time, being very keen on dance, I also wanted to be in Hot Gossip!

    Talking of which ......

Apparently, today is National Cleavage Day.

    Wear yours with pride!

Talking of Andy Fairweather Lowe - saw him recently backing Eric Clapton. Didn't realise what a great guitarist he is. Something that made me smile though was that he had a huge white guitar (where's girltarist when you need her) have no idea what 'brand' it was. Guitar was almost as big as him.

    Good Morning all.

Cloud cover here at the moment, which will hopefully blow over. Its funny how quickly you can get used to good weather.

So, the last day of March, I think its flown by, maybe something to do with being off work, time flies and all that!

Today, I think I will take myself along the coast to Watchet, tide permitting of course. Its a very interesting coastline, with huge patches of alabaster (which always reminds me of coconut ice. Also, the most incredible fossils, some of them of incredible size, which probably explains, why they are still there, as they are way too big to pick up and carry.

Once my nuisance of an internet connection fires back up (Grrr) I shall check the tide times, as its very easy to be cut off between here and there and a quick look up at the seaweed growing on the cliffs, gives an indication that there is only one way out and its far too chilly for that, although you can bet that the 'Camp revellers' will be out in force on Minehead beach ready to take the plunge. Camp can be taken in whichever context you wish.

Looking out of my window, the tide is way out, so I am guessing a lunchtime high tide which will allow perfectly for an safe afternoon stroll.

The other reason behind this stroll is to try and spot at least a sand martin, if not a swallow, as they are usually the first to arrive and it would be lovely to report one or two before the month is out.

Cuckoos have been rumoured as already being here, so maybe I'll be able to report on those too.

Wishing all Bloggers a funfilled, sundrenched weekend.

Have copied this from next door, which I try not to do as a rule, but dreadful internet problems are proving somewhat of a challenge.

    Happy Days :)

    Hi everyone:

I spent the entire week thinking - come Saturday, I am staying in bed until noon. Oh, really? Have been up since 6.55!

Hope everyone is ok. Busy day ahead - housework (really hate it) and then food shopping, which is usually the responsibility of MrS, but he is out of action at the moment - bless him, he has tendonitis in his left foot, and walking too much is out of the question.

I managed to cheer him up last night with a wee kitchen party, so that was ok. He is saving all his energy for tonight to get into a taxi to go to the show.

AliB: hope you are having a wonderful time in London - thinking of you. xx

Sal: you think you have made spelling mistakes? Looking back at the blog, I see I asked Cheryl "wear" to find something! Ye gods!

Bingo: welcome back. xx You'll get to America one of these days, I am sure!

JG: lovely to see you. xx I am so looking forward to seeing you in June.

Just listening to Chris from yesterday - really do not know how I will survive the next two weeks without him! I am taking a leaf out of Mary's book - will listen to Chris next week on Listen Again. But the second week? You know what - I am going to try Radio 4 - I love John Humphrys!

    Have a great weekend, everyone.

Sal: thank you for that - they were both so brilliant. xx Eric always reminds me of my lovely Daddy - they were quite alike!

Right, off for a good greet, while I clean the bathroom!

Chrissie, if you get chance to pop back, a translation of 'good greet' would be appreciated, not a term thats reached these southern shores yet ;)

Sal, I am still here, listening to the end of Chris from yesterday. A "good greet" is to cry - I mean, really really cry - you know that way when you indulge yourself? That's it!

    Chris now playing Paolo!

    Good morning all,

Been out on Ash, 2 loads of washing out and another in the machine, just finished my crispies and now going to head to ELH with my recycling (don't worry I'll lock the car this time), then take the dogs to the beach as it's anothere beautiful day here, better make the most of it whilst it lasts.

Had a panicked phone call at 8 last night, (on my mobile that is as our phone line has been broken by guys putting up new telegraph poles in the field next to us!), from friend/neighbour, her horse had managed to get rope wrapped round both of his back legs in the field and it had cut right through his skin, the way it was tangled round him he couldn't move, she managed to free him by the time I got there so the vet came out and dressed it, gave him a pain killer, a sedative and antibiotic, very lucky as it could have been a lot worse had she not gone out to the field to check him before dark, he looks a lot perkier this morning and is back out in the field (with the rope removed I hasten to add).

Anyway, I'm off before the beach gets too busy.

    Have a great day.

Sal: no, no worries - I am absolutely fine - but, as always, I am fairly emotional! xx

Gail: bless that horse - your friend must be so relieved she checked on her horse last night. Enjoy the beach!

Now, I really, really have a bottle of C*f in my hand - I am cleaning, promise!

    Hello all!

I ADORE Matt Lucas; I think he's one of the most genuinely talented people in the world - funny, clever and outstanding as Thenardier in Les Mis; was brilliant on yesterday's show. Does anyone remember the Lucas Award that was on the shelf in R2 HQ when we went for CiN last year?!

Also enjoyed the "Mega Bingo Star Travel Show" yesterday afternoon... whatta guy ;-)

Are we condemned to two weeks of RM now...? Mind you, he wasn't QUITE as bad last time - fingers crossed, eh?

Much love to all, keep smiling!

    Hello.

A cool day here and heating back on again, thank goodness it was fixed in time and how lucky that it went dodgy during the warm spell. Washing in the machine and odds and ends to be done today, not too much though.

Sal-Enjoy your coastal walk and let's hope that the tide is low. Now got a song in my head 'The Tide Is High And I'm Moving On'

Chrissie-Don't do too much housework and good luck with the shops. Are you getting Easter eggs? I hope MrS's foot is soon better.

GeeGee-What a scare for you and your neighbour and what a good neighbour you are to rush to help. Thank goodness the horse is now OK.

Roo-I love Matt Lucas too. He was so funny in Shooting Stars in his babygro suit and doing his songs. And of course all the things he's done with David Walliams. btw I wonder is there going to be another series of Come Fly With Me?
