Eli says hi...

Chris Evans | 09:33 UK time, Friday, 1 June 2012

...live from round the corner from Radio 2. Blimey he didn't hang about either. Fifty two minutes from start to finish. And seven pounds thirteen ounces. Mum is rocking, Eli is sleeping and eating and then sleeping again. He's already got it all miles more sussed than his dad. Have an absolutely fabulous weekend everyone. God save the Queen and I'll see you on the telly tonight and on the radio live from Buck Pal Monday afternoon from 5pm for the big gig - all by royal appointment of course.

Peace and Love

    A message for Eli....

Welcome and Congratulations. We are all delighted that you could make it. Getting here wasn't easy. In fact, we think it was a lot tougher than you realize.

To begin with, for you to be here now, trillions of drifting atoms had to somehow assemble in an intricate and curiously obliging manner to create you. It's arrangement is so specialised and particular that it has never been tried before and will exist only this once. For the next many years, we hope these tiny particles will uncomplainingly engage in all the billions of deft, co-operative efforts necessary to keep you in tact and let you experience the supremely agreeable but generally underappreciated state known as existence.

Not only have you been lucky enough to be attached since time immemorial to a favoured evolutionary line, but you have also been extremely (no, miraculously) fortunate in your personal ancestry. Consider the fact that for 3.8 billion years, a time period older than Earths mountains and rivers, evert one of your forebears on BOTH sides have been attractive enough to find a mate, healthy enough to reproduce and sufficiently blessed by fate and circumstances to live long enough to do so. Not one of your pertinent ancestors was sqashed, devoured, drowned, starved, stuckfast or otherwise deflected from its life's quest of delivering a tiny charge of genetic material to the right partner at the right moment to perpetuate the only possible sequence of hereditary combinations that could result eventually and astoundingly in you, Eli!

    Welcome to the world
From Fred, Ginny, Fin and Maddie Crellin

Mmm - it's a shame CE could't keep his commitment to the very talented young writers (500 words) at the Hay Festival. We've had weeks of him wittering on about the impending birth - I guess we'll be treated to a minute by minute description of the new addition growing up each morning now - not to mention the 2 weeks paternity leave that he'll be taking, in addition to the two weeks holiday he takes every 6-8 weeks.. All that holiday, and a handsome pay cheque for someone who works 3 hours a day - perhaps it's time to spend more time serving your listeners, rather than filling each breakfast show with details of your family, your cars, your money, your golf ... and all the other things us mortals strive so hard for....
