This was a fight between two local candidates which has been simmering a long time. It is probably overstating the swing when local effects are taken into account.

Could this be the first of many gains? I hope so!

Charles Kennedy is spot on - winning speech by SNP far better than the ranting of Pauline at Glasgow Kelvin.

There is no swing from Labour to the SNP - the Labour vote actually went up. Basically the protest vote from the SSP(who aren't standing in constituencies) has moved to the SNP.

They may gain constitency seats but might lose on the lists.

I preferred the passion of Pauline`s speech, the SNP chap seems to be a terrible public speaker, oh well.

Of course, the sub-plot to this seat was the battle over what each candidate would do with their 拢20k for resigning from the council.

Joe Fitzpatrick promised to donate it to charity if elected, which prompted protests from Jill Shimi, who threatened to report him...

Agree with Stuart, good to see some passion in Pauline's speech. Hope to see more of her in the next parliament

Congratulations to the SNP for a hard fought gain over many years the negitive approach of the Labour party has not given voters access to the facts rather instilling fear in the electorate.

Good coverage Brian! Please Please Please, ensure that Glenn Campbell does not repeat his embarrasing "Oprah" style affectation on Sunday night's debate by asking politicians to look into their opponents eyes!

I keep hearing how confusing the ballot papers were and it just makes me shake my head and wonder how stupid are we. One form was crosses and one form was numbers - come on get a grip!!!

Good win for the SNP. However after hearing the rants of Labour in Kelvin and Anniesland I really can't believe how childish Labour are.

Brian I don't think you're harping on about the rejected papers (you're doing a grand job!). I'm just dismayed at the number of people that didn't figure out how to do it. This has just proven that "Education, Education, Education!!" is an issue in Scotland and looks like it's not being tackled correctly so far.

The labour chap who won Glasgow-Annisland was also passionate and now we know why, SNP supporters have a problem with democracy.
