So now the proper talking kicks off.

Rhodri Morgan plans to speak to Ieuan Wyn Jones this morning, though the mood of yesterday's Labour group meeting seems to have shifted the odds firmly in favour of the Lib Dems. A deal with them may be 'unpalatable' but the suggestion coming from some quarters is that far more could stomach that thought than a deal with Plaid.

There are hints from some that Labour had been thinking strategically about the effect a deal with Plaid Cymru would have on Plaid's chances come the 2011 election. Why give them a platform? The 'inedible' deal hasn't been spat out yet though so we'll keep listening.

In the meantime over to Mike German and his group: what will they demand and as crucial, what can they deliver?

I hear too that Gwenda Thomas has not been persuaded to take on the role of Deputy Presiding Officer. Step up Rosemary Butler?

The Liberal Democrat National Executive are meeting tomorrow night in Llandrindod Wells. You can always go and listen at the keyhole - your neck of the woods BG - well not too far? They've asked local branches to submit their opinions on future deals: in other words, what sort of deal would they accept if it came to a Special Conference? Or in yet more words: does PR in local government HAVE to be there? And remember they are still talking to Plaid too. Dafydd Elis Thomas said on Taro'r Post this lunchtime said if he was a betting man he wouldn't put his pound on a Lib-Lab pact but 'on something quite different'. Perhaps Vaughan should keep his online betting shop going ..?

After all, since Mefin Davies plays for Gloucester and Bristol and Bath are now strong rugby cities the idea has to have some mileage..

Agree with Bedd Gelert and Pads. Noted that the so called English Democrat Party came absolutely nowhere in their attempt to persuade the good people of Monmouthshire that they should be part of England. Wales should put in a counter claim to claw back our former territories in Herefordshire and Shropshire and while we're at it, perhaps the Cornish people would prefer to throw in their lot with us as well!
