So after being in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and The Golden Compass, will Christopher Lee be appearing in The Chronicles of Parahnia?

Hello Dr. Mark, I鈥檝e been a follower of this blog for quite some time and really look forward to hearing what you have to say. More than that, you have actually educated me sometimes and thanks to you discovered the animation 鈥淔antastic Planet鈥� (which you mentioned bally ages ago).

Now, you have recently mentioned 鈥淲osname Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death鈥� and I wouldn鈥檛 mind seeing this. However, finding a DVD copy of this is proving problematic...any ideas where I could get my hands on one? Secondly, any ideas why DVDs have region codes which prevents us watching certain DVDs when there are many non-region coded (mainly music DVDs) that exist...or am I missing something glaringly obvious?

I think I may have to VOMIT. I have this heaving sensation deep within my stomach, and this sensation is being brought on by a certain sequel that is 'S.DARKO', due out for DVD release early may next month.

Now I can usually retain my STOMACH CONTENTS, but having found out yesterday about this news, I feel outraged a sequel is being made of the film, 'DONNIE DARKO'. News to you?

I'm interested to hear your views on sequels, remakes, and FANBOYS'S who feel it necessary to put their mark in history, decimating perfectly fine films and disrespecting director's and writers alike, by going straight to the film studio's directly to seek approval and funding, for their quite frankly crap remakes/sequels?



I know DONNIE DARKO is a hit/miss with many people, but surely it could be recognised that their will remain a large following of the film of the once teenage generation of its day who went to see it, and generations after who still do? But adding a sequel just renders meaning and purpose useless from not just the film, but the people who have turned it into a cult/following, in the same way people have made a cult out of classic horror movies etc (sorry for the obvious example).

Your review of 'Marley and Me' was more acerbic than 'Bride Wars'. So should 'M and M' be bottom of the pops?

A couple of months ago a Danish film called Flame&citron came out, personally I thought at the time that it was the best film in the cinemas. I was wondering why you never reviewed it?

DVDs are region coded because the owner of the copyright will licence the film to various territories and in some cases force them to region code the DVD so that can make money out of other territories. IT's all been broken down by multi-region DVD players now but the majority of people don't have them or aren't aware. I heard of one case where the licensor of Hiroshi Teshigahara's Man Without a Map aka The Ruined Map won't be licensed on DVD with English subtitles at the publisher of the original novel's request! Dr. K, have you ever seen this film? It's a wonderful novel by Kobo Abe and Teshigahara's other films are amazing.

Piranha Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death was recently shown on the quality movie channel that is Movies4men and can be viewed online. Hopefully it will be on again soon! I did see a bit and it looked like great stuff though was rather late so I turned it off. I wish I hand't now.

Yes Christopher Lee is right, sort of. The "h" in Piranha, makes it sound not like "na" but slightly like "nia". Just like my surname, Cunha.
"nh" is the Portuguese equivalent to "帽" in Spanish and "gn" French.

Liam, Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death has never been released on the UK on DVD. However, it is available on Ebay. Following Dr K's recommendation, I bought a copy, which cost me about 拢8 and arrived from the USA in about a week.

I can confirm it is indeed a good film, and it far my epxectations of any film with such a trashy B-movie like title. Cannibal Women is a low-budget satire of the highest order. It's a great spoof of everything from the entire Feminist movement to Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Apocalypse Now.
